Life after the death of a baby can feel as though the ground has disappeared beneath your feet. Everyday things like pregnancy announcements, social media, or being around babies and young children can be intensely painful, and you may find yourself avoiding people and situations you once enjoyed. You and your partner may grieve very differently, which can create distance, misunderstandings or conflict at the time you most need each other. If you feel overwhelmed, stuck, anxious about a possible future pregnancy or whether you will be able to have a baby, counselling can offer a gentle space to begin finding your way forward.

Therapy can be a place where you feel met, supported, and understood, without feeling the pressure to change or “fix” anything before you are ready. It can be a space to slow down, offload, and begin to make sense of what you are experiencing.

Hi, I am Anni! I work mostly with people who are starting to notice patterns in their relationships or within themselves that don’t feel good anymore. You might keep ending up in similar dynamics, feel stuck in certain ways of relating, or sense that something just isn’t quite right. Many of my clients are navigating relationship difficulties, life transitions, or questions around identity and self-worth. Some are also living between cultures or adjusting to life in a new country. In our work, we slow things down and begin to make sense of what’s underneath—so change feels more meaningful, not just like a quick fix.

I am an integrative psychotherapist working with couples, children, adolescents and parents.
It is not necessarily our circumstances that provide us with challenges but how we approach them. Our past can be useful in understanding our present but it does not determine our future. I work both on developing your resilience and the capacity to cope with your challenges as well as providing you with the skills needed to turn them into opportunities.

You might be a parent who is reading this because your child is having a hard time and you aren't sure where to turn.
Therapy is not one-size-fits-all. I tailor my approach to the needs of my clients. In addition to talk therapy, I often work with the creative arts, play, metaphor, and mindfulness as this can help us to access feelings that words alone fail to express. My practice is LGBTQ+ affirming and centres an awareness of intersectionality.

What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
