Are you finding yourself in midlife feeling stressed, anxious or depressed? Then you’re not alone. Midlife brings with it many issues for both men & women: work stresses, worries about children, elderly parents, relationship problems, questions about your role in life, and a depressing feeling that you’re no longer yourself, unable to cope as well as you once did. Pressures & losses of this time can be hard to deal with. I know, I’ve been there too. If you're struggling and need support, or maybe you just need someone to talk to who understands, I’m here to help. I work with both men and women to overcome the chaos that is midlife.

When relationships are not working we often feel frustrated, and confused with measurable consequences on our lives and those around us.There are many reasons why relationships become difficult or unmanageable These may be because of poor communication, arguments that are repeated or never resolved, trust issues, an affair or life stage transitions such as having children, divorce, blended families, bereavement or retirement.

I have extensive experience around a vast array of presenting issues in particular anxiety, trauma, anger management, relationships issues, communication problems, work related issues, health and social anxiety, ADHD, loss and bereavement.
Unheard, misunderstood, confused, unsure, lost, desperate, feeling stuck, wanting to feel 'normal'. Any of these reasons and more can lead us to seek Counselling. I have been a therapist for 13 years, and practice in a Person-Centred way. What this means is, I truly believe when someone comes to see me they want to be listened to, not told it will be OK, or try this and do that. You have probably tried those things and still feel the same. What's needed is someone with the skill to help you navigate your feelings on a deeper level, to give you greater understanding of how you have come to feel the way you do.

I am a person centred counsellor and also have a qualification in cognitive behavioural therapy. I believe counselling is a journey of self-discovery and personal development that is a continual process both during and after therapy has taken place. Through counselling, a person will learn about themselves in a way they would never intend or maybe expect. As a counsellor I will be alongside you on your therapeutic journey and create a safe space that is respectful and non-biased to allow you to discover yourself and work through any issues that may be troubling you.

However this manifests itself - through anger, anxiety, depression, loneliness, paranoia - a person can be built up again, validated, listened to and ultimately move forward.
I write for the BACP's Private Practice Journal (feature articles & 'My Practice' column) in an attempt to look at themes within counselling on a deeper level. This helps me gain perspective away from the privilege and satisfaction of helping people from all walks of life: musicians, bus drivers, civil engineers, pilots, police officers, garage mechanics etc

“Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and die with their song still inside them” Men don’t suffer more psychological disorders than women overall, however, the way men suffer them can be more destructive and problematic as they tend to externalise their suffering in the form of violence, substance abuse, anger, aggression, etc.
I offer effective online and face-to-face therapy for men who want to change, who are struggling, or who want to access more of their potential. If this is you, I believe I can help because I employ the 'gold standard' of talking therapies (CBT), I have fifty years of life experience of being a man in UK society, and I operate under the BACP code of ethics.

Are you feeling unfilled, like there is something bubbling inside of you that you can't quite put into words or get hold of? Are you open and curious to discovering what that is? Have you had enough with how life is right now and ready to step into change? Perhaps you have prioritised others for too long and want to step into the fullness that you are. Note: Please know, the relationship in therapy is 75% of positive outcomes. My qualifications mean nothing if you don't feel like I get you. I encourage you to reach out and feel into the shared space we might create.

Within my practice I provide a safe, non-judgemental, professional and confidential environment in which you can explore whatever you feel necessary. Through exploring these issues, we can both begin to understand what is happening and why. This process can assist in self-understanding which in-turn boosts self-confidence and compassion. With this knowledge you may then become empowered to make the necessary changes needed in your life to address whatever has been causing the discomfort.

Life can feel overwhelming. Stress, anxiety, past trauma, depression, relationship struggles; they pile up, and before you know it, you're just getting through the days. Some days, you manage. Other days, you need more than just a coping tool; you need real support. Sometimes, You Just Need Someone to Say… "That’s OK, it’s not your fault." "I get why you feel this way; it makes sense." "What once protected you might now be holding you back." Therapy isn’t about fixing you—you’re not broken. It’s about understanding yourself, figuring out what’s going on, and working towards the life you want.

Anger Management Counsellors

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
