If you've ever said to yourself: "I know I keep repeating the same patterns... but I don’t know how to stop." you are not alone. Knowing why we struggle is only half the battle; healing happens when we learn to do things differently. It is exhausting to have full insight yet stay stuck in the same relational loops. As a Relational Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, I offer a steady, safe pair of hands to hold these complex dynamics. We won't just analyze your past—we’ll use our relationship to explore your nervous system, use creative reflection, and gently bridge the gap to true emotional change.

I have worked for several years with survivors of domestic abuse and coercive control, offering support to young people, women, men and families.
Are your thoughts, feelings, or past experiences starting to weigh on you? You might be feeling ready for something to shift. Sometimes, the ways we’ve learned to cope can begin to hold us back from living the life we want.

I have specialist training in domestic abuse and sexual violence, alongside ongoing CPD in trauma-informed practice, safeguarding and ethical counselling.
I work with adults who may be feeling anxious, low in mood, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns that are affecting their wellbeing or relationships. Some people come when things in their life or relationships have started to feel confusing, draining, or difficult to make sense of. Others may be struggling with confidence, self-worth, or a general sense of feeling “not quite themselves”. Often, people have been managing on their own for a long time before reaching out for support.

Are you feeling stuck, unheard, unworthy? Are you living your best life, or is something holding you back? Life is challenging at times. Many things can trigger our internal critic, making us believe we are 'less than’ or are failing. We dwell in the past, worrying about mistakes, reliving painful events, remembering unhealthy relationships. It can feel impossible to see a way forward. There are many human emotions - are yours feeling balanced, or are one or two overwhelming the others?

I was an IDVA (Independent Domestic Violence Advisor) for some years and I also have experience working in a residential setting with young people experiencing complex mental health issues.
As each of my clients is unique, I like to spend time creating an individual therapy plan that will address their concerns and in doing so increase their self awareness. I include several different models in my therapy plans and often use creative methods to enable my clients to access their subconscious while feeling fully supported and in a safe space.

I'm experienced in working with people recovering from domestic abuse and struggling with identity following major life changes, with considerable experience counselling parents and carers.
Putting into words how we feel can be daunting. We can find ourselves worrying that we won’t be understood, feeling safer to keep things bottled up. Therapy can be an opportunity to help find the words, confront beliefs we hold about ourselves or our experiences, and explore new ways we want to live our lives. Often narratives embed themselves in our relational patterns with others. You may feel like you’re never good enough, like you can never let your guard down or are longing for real connection but feeling unseen in relationships. Carrying these beliefs around alone can be incredibly isolating and can leave us feeling lost.

Domestic Abuse Counsellors
What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?
Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognise that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?
Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?
Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?
It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
