I work with individuals and couples, helping them find ways to live a more fulfilled and satisfying life. Over time, we develop ways of behaving, thinking and feeling that work well enough to get by, but sometimes get ‘stuck’; I’m trained and experienced in finding and understanding those patterns and, without judgement, getting to the heart of how to put things right. I’ve worked in private practice, charities and the NHS with a range of individual issues, particularly depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress and historical trauma; couples work includes relationship breakdown, affairs, communication and conflict challenges.

It may be that you have something specific you want to talk about, you may want to calm the negative thoughts that are going around your head or you may be looking to find help for someone you care about. Perhaps when you just want someone who will listen to you, a space to off-load where there is no worry about saying the wrong thing, the fear of being judged or where feeling like you are being an imposition. I am here to help you when you are ready to take the next step.

Life doesn't always unfold the way we expect. You might be struggling in your relationships, feeling overwhelmed by work, questioning who you are, or facing a major life change. From the outside, you may seem to be coping, holding everything together for everyone else. But inside, you're wondering how much longer you can keep going like this. Therapy will help you make sense of what's happening, understand the patterns that are keeping you stuck, and help you move forward with greater confidence, clarity and self-belief.

I offer a warm, thoughtful space to explore the challenges of pregnancy, early motherhood, and parenthood.
If you are finding the transition to parenthood harder than expected, please know you are far from alone. Many parents I work with feel constantly on edge, burnt out, or disconnected from who they were before. Many have faced a traumatic start to parenthood. You might be struggling to feel the way you thought you would for your new baby, navigating a painful shift from one child to two, or dealing with raw toddler rages that trigger things from your own past. Couples I see often feel a growing distance from each other, finding it hard to connect amid the chaos. Whatever you are carrying, therapy offers a space to figure things out.

Many of the people I work with are used to carrying a lot on their own. They may feel anxious, overwhelmed or burnt out, find themselves overthinking, putting pressure on themselves, or struggling to switch off. Some feel stuck in patterns of people-pleasing, perfectionism or self-criticism, while others have lost sight of what they need and where they fit. Therapy can provide an opportunity to slow things down, reflect on what's been happening. Alongside practical tools and strategies, we'll explore your experiences at a pace that suits you, helping you better understand yourself and find a way forward that feels right for you.

We are a small group of therapists led by Tim Potter. Working from therapy rooms in Tunbridge Wells and Harley Street. For over 26 years we have worked to help people with anxiety, addiction, depression, and other areas of specialism such as post-natal depression, bereavement, and OCD. We receive most of our referrals through word of mouth for adults, children and teenagers. You can expect us to look for a therapist who best suits your needs, and if for some reason we cannot, we can recommend a trusted other that are not a part of the practice.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Counsellors
What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?
The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?
Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?
A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioural therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviours. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
