You may be someone who thinks deeply about yourself and the world, yet still feel stuck. Perhaps you understand your patterns intellectually, but certain reactions, relationships, or ways of coping keep resurfacing. From the outside things may look fine, yet internally something feels conflicted, tense, or quietly out of place. Many of my clients want not just relief, but a deeper understanding of themselves and more freedom in how they live.

On the surface, you project complete control and perfection. But below the surface, you are paddling fiercely to stay afloat. Are you a high- achiever tired of this race to relentlessly prove that you are worthy of success, validation, love, respect, accolades, etc? Have imposter syndrome, “what’s next” syndrome, inner loneliness, powerlessness, anxiety, depression, self-doubt, guilt, insecurity, relationship difficulties, or unresolved grief and loss become unbearable? Are you ready to take back control of your decision-making, life choices and relationships?

To change an unhelpful pattern of thinking, feeling and behaving, it is often not enough to learn techniques for modifying our behaviour. To achieve lasting change, we need to understand why we internalised certain patterns that may repeatedly lead us into difficult situations - both with our environment, with people we love and, not least, with ourselves. Gaining this understanding requires us to examine our early relationships with significant others and the way we were brought up and learned to react and regulate ourselves.

I am specifically trained to work with children, adolescents, families and adults. I use an integrative approach that includes traditional talking therapy in combination with creative imagination through visualisations, breath work, dreams, art and play. Underpinning my practice is the belief that we are made up of mind, body and soul. Our essential qualities can be covered over by the stress of life and our environment. Our work is to reveal the soul nature underneath and find ways to heal and nourish the true self.

I wonder if you have been feeling sad, stressed or anxious? Have these feelings been with you for a long time? Are you wondering when they will reappear? It’s like dreading what is around the corner and finding it hard to enjoy or feel good in the present. Other people look like they’re having fun but your world is a shade of grey. Things that you loved doing no longer give you happiness and it's hard to concentrate. At times it takes lots of energy to go out or spend time with people who care about you. Your confidence and ability to cope disappear as you become stuck and the people around you become as worn down as you feel.

Let’s be real — life is hard and rarely straightforward, and our needs and challenges can be even more complex. Some people may not know where to begin, while for others, the cause feels clear. Wherever you find yourself, I’m here to help. As a Clinical Psychologist, I’ve gained extensive experience working across NHS, community, and specialist services. These experiences have equipped me to support a wide range of individuals — from those wanting to build confidence in a specific area of life, to those navigating more complex and enduring mental health difficulties.

You don’t need to be falling apart to talk. You just need to admit something doesn’t feel right. Maybe you’re stressed, stuck in your head, angry, or feeling low. I work with men and teenage boys who are done bottling it up. Whether it's break-ups, fatherhood, race, identity, or just feeling lost, we talk it through—no judgement, no fluff. Just real, straight-talking therapy that helps you understand what’s going on and gives you tools to deal with it. You don’t have to do it alone.

You may be feeling overwhelmed by mental health challenges and wondering whether you can enjoy a life of quality where you're in control rather than the mind bully. You're hoping for a compassionate, honest non- judgemental therapist with lived experience and clinical expertise. You want a safe space to unmask and be authentic, whilst being supported to face your fears. You're hoping for a collaborative journey where your therapist is a true partner, guiding you through setbacks empowering you to understand your experiences and work towards recovery - not necessarily "free" of the struggles, but maybe a "little bit less" of them.

You have already made a brave and important step on the journey to well-being and self-discovery, by enquiring about having therapy. As a Clinical Psychologist, I am passionate about helping people to realise the values, knowledge, and skills that they already hold, and how the awareness of this can enable them to live full, vibrant and satisfying lives. I believe that it is important to learn skills to help people cope with the present and the future, as well as making sense of past experiences to understand patterns that are happening in your life currently.

FAQ - Black Counselling
As a Black British, why might I wish to see a therapist who is Black British?
Black British clients may seek out Black British therapists for several reasons, foremost being a sense of cultural understanding and the possibility of shared experiences. Cultural sensitivity and context on the part of the therapist may make it easier to form a therapeutic alliance and to focus on the work of therapy without the need to explain or educate a therapist on cultural matters. It may also be empowering to work with a therapist who shares one’s racial or ethnic background. It is important to note that a therapist who demonstrates cultural sensitivity can be highly effective even if they do not share a client’s background or race.

Can clients benefit from working with a therapist who shares their race or ethnicity?
Yes, having a therapist who shares a client’s race or ethnicity is often valuable, especially if it fosters a strong therapeutic alliance between the two. While training, qualifications, and experience are always important, a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic effectiveness. An alliance is likely to be strengthened with a therapist who has an understanding of a client’s background and perhaps also shared life experiences. It should be noted that many clients form a strong bond with their therapist regardless of their race or ethnicity. This is a personal decision, and it depends on the therapist, the client, and the connection between the two.

How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with Black British clients?
Clients can ask therapists directly about their experience working with clients of diverse backgrounds, including with Black British individuals. You may wish to inquire whether a therapist has undertaken training in cultural competence broadly, and how specifically they would ensure that their approach is sensitive to the needs of Black British clients. Therapy involves honesty and trust, so it’s best for clients to share concerns about their therapist’s cultural competence at the outset. And a good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals based on the concerns you articulate.

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?
It’s important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive because everyone comes to therapy with a unique background and set of experiences. Being aware of culture and cultural differences between people is important for understanding clients, as is coming to therapy with an open mind, recognising that the therapist doesn’t necessarily understand everything and that the client can help guide the way.

Who is included in Psychology Today's directory of Black therapists?
The directory of Black therapists includes therapists who have self-identified their ethnicity in their profiles. Psychology Today uses this information to assist clients in finding a therapist who can provide a cultural match. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their ethnicity in their profile, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. In situations where the number of therapists who have identified as Black is limited, the directory will also show therapists who have undergone specific multicultural training or have extensive experience working with clients from relevant cultural backgrounds.
