For children and young people, who have not had time to develop their own coping strategies, such situations are even more difficult to cope with.
My counselling room is filled with many resources, from art and craft, to toys and a sand tray, which engage children and allow them to communicate effectively. It is through working creatively in this way that I provide children and young people with the opportunity to explore and express their feelings.

Creativity is a big part of my practice, too—I may use tools such as sand trays, painting, or games when working with children and Young People.
Clients often come to me feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, low mood, and a lack of confidence or identity. Many describe living with a constant fight-or-flight response, a sense of worthlessness, or a deep exhaustion from battling their emotions every day. Therapy can feel like a daunting first step, especially if you’re not sure what you need or where to begin. My role is to walk alongside you, offering empathy and understanding, while also helping you explore new ways of coping and moving forward.

My specialism is working with children and young people.
MyReset Counselling was named after a client who said counselling was his “reset button”. I am here to offer support to clients who live in or have lived experience of being in the care system. Other clients may be living with the impact of trauma, separation and loss, attachment needs or bereavement. Others may be exploring their cultural identity. I enjoy seeing people move towards achieving the changes they identify for themselves.

Hello, my name is Helen and firstly I would like to say that I understand that life can be difficult to navigate and at times can overwhelm you. It can be hard to understand and come to terms with, you may feel stuck and alone with no one to turn to and you may be seeking counselling for any number of reasons but there is usually an underlying sense that "things are going wrong” or we are “unable to cope”. As a person-centred therapist I offer the space and time to allow you to explore what is happening for you and to help you find a way to make sense of feelings and reactions to life events.

The demands of everyday life can make it difficult for children to experience choice, autonomy, and time to sit with and understand their emotions.
Therapeutic play uses a variety of modalities including clay, sand, paint, puppets, therapeutic stories and musical instruments, to offer children the opportunity to make sense of their experiences and explore their identity. Non-directive play using these tools and a positive relationship with their therapist can support development and wellbeing.

Play is a child's natural language: it speaks the worries and feelings too confusing for words.
My prior experience in teaching and atypical development helps me to see the neuroscience behind the processes at work when children bravely face their barriers and work towards being happier and healthier, building resilience and self-worth to cope with the challenges they face in their daily lives.

Throughout my practice, I began specialising in Children, Young People and Families, however now successfully work with Adults and Couples with various life difficulties too.
My aim is to provide affordable support within a safe environment, where you are able to talk freely, allowing for a deeper understanding of yourself and some of the difficulties you, your family or partner may be facing and a productive way of how to handle them.

I am an integrative counsellor comfortable working with both adults and children of all ages, working short or long term depending on what you feel you need.
It is impossible for any of us to escape the ever increasing challenges in our lives and when things get on top of us, whatever the cause it can help to talk to someone not directly involved in your day to day life. Counselling is somewhere for you to be heard and offers a confidential and private space where you can think about and discuss your thoughts, emotions, events and relationships allowing you to work through these and make sense of your choices. Talking with a professional gives you the opportunity to explore challenging issues and obtain coping strategies for the future.

I also specialise in working with children and parents who are struggling with their children's behaviour.
Hi I'm Mo, I'm an experienced psychotherapist, supervisor and trainer. We've all got our unique skills and talents and being a good psychotherapist is mine. People describe me as warm, easy to get along with and funny, with a depth of professional knowledge that I use to the advantage of my client in a down to earth way. It's hard to describe exactly what I do and how I do it because after many years of studying, supervising and training other therapists, it just comes naturally. However, my work is evidence based and the evidence shows that working with me will get you results or help you change or accept what can't be changed.

Child Counsellors

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?

Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How long are sessions with child therapists?

Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.

How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?

The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?

A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
