People from all walks of life have come to me for counselling for many different reasons. In my work as a therapist the most important thing to me is you! I work in a way that looks at all aspects of you. We would look at your past experiences as these might help us understand what you might be experiencing in the present. We would look at what is going on for you now and at ways of managing this. We would look at what you might like going forward and ways of achieving this. Everything you think and feel would be the focus and whatever is right for you will always be at the heart of our work together.

I have particular experience working with neurodivergence, blue light professionals, women’s hormonal health and parenting.
You may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck or disconnected from yourself or others. Perhaps you’re navigating neurodivergence, the impact of trauma, identity changes, relationship difficulties or the emotional demands of work or family life. You might be used to coping alone and now want space to understand what’s going on beneath the surface, make sense of patterns, and feel more grounded, confident and connected in your life and relationships.

I aim to provide a therapeutic experience that directly addresses the presenting issues, but also nourishes psychological, spiritual, emotional, social and physical health and well-being, as these aspects are all inter-connected. Coming to therapy can feel like a big step, especially when you're working through difficult times in your personal or professional life. My clients are usually people who want to see the connections between their current state and how they got here, are willing to do the emotional work necessary to move on.

Parent-child relations, struggling partner, or friendship issues.
Whatever your issues are , I am happy to listen to you and help you find a way to manage your unhappiness. When there are difficulties that overwhelm you it is good to take time for yourself and reflect on the effect your life is having on you and the people close to you. Many issues cause conflict , anxiety, and depression. It is easy to feel lonely and disconnected from ourselves and the people who matter to us. Some issues are very private and we need a confidential environment to discuss these delicate matters, issues of the heart, the mind, the soul.

I am specialist in supporting children, adolescents, parents and families.
I draw heavily from attachment-based approaches, which means there is a focus on safety in close relationships. Often work with children will closely involve those caring for the child. I have various specialisms which include parent-infant work, pre-and-peri-natal, trauma, loss, transition, growth and recovery (at any age or stage).

I’m Louise, a Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years’ experience working in the NHS with children, young people and parents.
With so many different types of therapy and therapists to choose from, finding a psychologist can feel overwhelming and confusing. I am always happy to offer a short telephone consultation to explain more about my approach and how we might work together. This can help us both decide if we are ‘a good fit’ and then arrange an initial appointment as needed.

What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
