Thank you for taking the time to read my profile today. Because I feel, we are so different in how we respond in our life’s situations, we can feel more hopelessness, struggling, feeling more overwhelmed with everyday life’s problems, and feeling more stuck in life. By working, listening and supporting you, when your experiencing higher levels of stress, and anxiety, you can find better ways to help you cope, and not be so overwhelmed with your negative thoughts, whilst learning to manage, cope, and communicate better for yourself, improving your relationships with people around you, who are part of and in your life.

Life's path can be windy and uncertain, where and who do you turn to when there are areas you cant resolve? Counselling is the opportunity to discuss with someone without judgement or advice. Instead we will create a relationship where you will be free to make your own choices and decisions which benefit you. Have you ever wondered who you could or should be? Where you're heading or why life hasn't been how you would have liked? Let's take time and discuss what's happening for you? I am able to provide short or long term counselling to suit your individual needs.

Hello Are you looking for someone to work with you on some struggles or difficulties you are experiencing that leave you feeling that you just can’t cope. Working with symptoms such as depression, anxiety, low self esteem or just feeling overwhelmed can all be indicators of memories of events that are held both in our mind but they also show up in our bodies. We will work mindfully together to gently see what comes up in a quiet and still space where we can tune into what is really going on for you. I believe finding the right Therapist is the first step.

I specialise in EMDR and Trauma Focused Interventions. I have specific expertise in working with people with trauma related mental health conditions such as PTSD, childhood trauma, domestic violence, dissociative difficulties and psychosis. I offer an integrative approach to therapy drawing heavily on attachment and trauma- informed ways of understanding how difficulties in the here and now often have their origins in earlier life experiences. I believe that effective therapy should be empowering, focused and meaningful and built upon the foundation of a strong therapeutic relationship.

Clinical psychologist with 20+ years experience in the mental health field. I offer assessment and formulation sessions as well as therapy sessions. In my view, the goal of therapy is not to find a "fix" or a speedy solution, but rather to help you explore and understand what has brought you to this point, what is keeping the difficulties going and what would help you to move forward and continue to move forward towards a place of good mental health. I am a specialist in anxiety and trauma (including social anxiety, OCD and PTSD) but work with people experiencing a range of struggles impacting their mental health.

Integrative counselling allows me to draw upon lots of different ways of working, such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness , Transactional Analysis (TA) and EFT to name a few, this means that I am able to tailor the sessions to your needs rather than to a specific model.
Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, phobias, intrusive thoughts, suicidal-ideation, self-doubt or something else.? If so, you have just taken the first step to getting some support, this can be really daunting. To make this a little easier I offer a free initial telephone call to help you to work out if I am the right counsellor for you. All of us benefit from feeling listened to, accepted and understood. I believe in treating the whole person within a therapeutic relationship, working holistically to ensure that the relationship between client and therapist is open, honest, non-judgemental in a confidential space.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Counsellors

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
