Sleep or Insomnia Counselling in Sutton
In the past I have closely worked with people who are LGBTQIA, neurodiverse, experiencing anxiety and or depressive symptom's, addiction, insomnia, managing life changes, anger issues, people who have family members living with dementia and more.
My clients are often reflective, thoughtful people who feel stuck or disconnected from who they are. They may struggle with self-criticism or people-pleasing, or feel that life has lost direction. Some may be adjusting to a recent diagnosis like ADHD or Autism or AuDHD and experiencing symptoms of anxiety or depression. Together, we explore what sits beneath these patterns, looking at identity, attachment, and meaning, to build understanding, self-compassion, and movement towards change. My approach draws on a range of strategies, offering warmth, honesty, and a space to reconnect with yourself and live more authentically.

Sometimes, being part of the LGBTQ+ community can be a very lonely existence, and we are not all ‘out and proud’ or lucky enough to feel part of a wider LGBTQ+ family. You may be experiencing isolation, shame, or perhaps you have faced rejection from your family or friends. I do not assume that your struggles are related to your sexuality or gender, but if you are trying to deal with something specific in your personal life, or are simply overwhelmed and feeling alone in your current situation, I can offer you a private and non-judgemental space for the exploration of anything which may be causing you pain.

First and foremost I aim to sit with you as another human being, with an open mind and a gentle approach from which we can think together about what has led you to try counselling. From this starting point we can then look at why you might be struggling with the thoughts and feelings that you face on a daily basis, be it a life situation that you need support with, past experiences that you are ready to share or if you are trying to make sense of why life seems to be so challenging for you, without any clear defining cause.

Starting therapy can feel daunting, but it shouldn’t feel like another place where you have to "mask." In my practice, I help adults and young people who are feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, trauma, or adults managing chronic conditions like pain and diabetes.
People usually come to me when they’re simply ready for things to change. Together, we’ll look at the bigger picture to understand your patterns while building practical tools that actually work for your life. Whether you’re an adult looking for support or a parent seeking neuro-affirmative care for your child, I’m here to help you navigate it.

Are you faced with difficulties, feeling angry, sad or anxious? I understand the reason you are seeking counselling may not be in relation to any specific issue. For example, you may want a safe and confidential space to explore your feelings or seek to grow as a person. It is my wish that our sessions together can help you to understand yourself better and provide greater insight and awareness of your presenting issues or life experience. My integrative training allows me to be flexible and adaptable with my approach, as I feel that therapy is not a one size fits all endeavour.

Do you find yourself living mostly in your head — coping, pushing through, and holding everything together — while your body carries the stress, tension, or unspoken emotions?
You may be experiencing anxiety, overwhelm, grief, or feel disconnected from yourself and others, or stuck in patterns like people-pleasing and self-doubt. You could be navigating life transitions, or searching for meaning, direction and more joy. Many people come to therapy carrying past experiences, feeling stuck in emotional loops, as emotions are not only held in thoughts but also in the body as tension, numbness, or a sense of being on edge.

Perhaps you manage a great deal - in relationships, family, or work - yet something doesn't feel quite right. You may have tried to make sense of things, even through therapy, yet nothing has really worked. At times, this can show up as unprocessed trauma, anxiety, anger or overwhelm. There may also be a sense of having lost touch with yourself, or a deeper feeling of not being enough. Or you may find yourself stuck in unhealthy relationship patterns - past or present - including betrayal or breakdown. Together, we can begin to make sense of these experiences, so things can start to shift in a more lasting and meaningful way.

How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.
Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.
Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.
What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
