Everyone faces challenges at various points in life. Some experiences can unsettle our sense of self, bringing sadness, pain, or confusion. No one is immune to hardship or trauma, but even in overwhelming moments, hope and healing are possible. Taking the step to allow yourself to feel better is both important and courageous. Therapy provides a space to pause, reflect, and make sense of what’s happening in your life. Together, we can explore your inner world, understand how past experiences may be influencing you now, and discover new, healthier ways to cope with challenges.

Deciding to have counselling can be anxiety provoking, trying to choose a counsellor/therapist from the list and wondering if they will be someone you can relate to, someone who will be able help you. I believe that the most important element to effective therapy is the quality of relationship between therapist and client. My aim is to create confidential, empathetic and non-judgemental space for you to talk about whatever has led you to seek out therapeutic support. You may be feeling overwhelmed and need someone to listen empathically and help you understand your relationship to yourself and others and to the world around you.

Are you here because you're feeling overwhelmed, anxious or stuck? Maybe you're struggling with thoughts or feelings you can't quite make sense of, or something has happened that you haven't been able to move past? Or perhaps you're a parent looking for support for your teenager and wondering where to begin. Whatever has brought you here, I’m glad you are seeking support. It’s normal to be unsure about whether therapy will be ‘the answer’, and even more normal to be overwhelmed by knowing which therapist to work with; so here’s a bit about me and how I work

Maybe you seem to cope on the outside, while inside you're exhausted from holding everything together. You might overthink, people-please, feel overwhelmed, struggle in relationships or notice the same patterns repeating. Perhaps experiences from your past are still shaping how you feel today, or you've simply lost sight of what you need. You may also know you're ADHD or autistic, be exploring whether you're neurodivergent, or have spent years masking and adapting to fit in. Whatever brings you to therapy, we can begin by making sense of your experiences together.

Everyone at some point in their lives will face a situation that they will need help to deal with. I believe it is important that people don’t feel alone in hard times, and it should never be seen as a sign of weakness to ask for help. My aim is to help to make sense of why we might suffer from panic, anxiety, depression. or find ourselves in repeated situations that leave us struggling with low self-esteem, low self-confidence, unfulfilled and unmotivated. I offer a secure, empathic and respectful environment to gain a deeper understanding of yourself.

Perhaps you understand why you struggle, but something still doesn't change. You may be anxious, stuck, people-pleasing, repeating painful relationship patterns, or simply feel you've somehow lost yourself. We are not psychologically mono: under trauma, loss or prolonged stress, parts of us can become hidden or exiled while others take over the job of coping. My work asks a different question: who is missing? Together we investigate what happened, what you feel in the body, and what part of you may need to be retrieved. Sometimes the part we find isn't the wounded one. It's your confidence, creativity, voice or power.

I have a particular interest in working with people who find themselves navigating different worlds, identities, and expectations. This may include people who have migrated, children, grandchildren of immigrants, LGBTQIA + clients who may have grown up balancing values of one culture at home and another outside it. I am less interested in helping people fit into a predetermined idea of how life should be lived, and more in helping them discover a way of living, loving, and relating that feels meaningful, authentic, and sustainable for them.

Past traumas haunts us, while the unpredictable future worries us - living in the present becomes increasingly more difficult. The constant that we can rely on is change. My aim is to help you take control of the change that you want to make, to claim the life you want for yourself, to find your meaning in your life, and live it as fully as possible. Many of the people I work with have spent years trying to understand why they continue to feel unsafe, fragmented, disconnected or stuck despite previous work and interventions. I aim to meet you exactly where you are at and together we can take the steps towards your goals and needs.

Dissociative Disorders (DID) Counsellors
How does therapy for dissociative disorders work?
Dissociation may be triggered by stress or other upsetting circumstances, and therapy can address the traumatic events at the core of an individual’s dissociation. Understanding why a person may dissociate can help the therapist and the individual come up with alternative methods of coping. A person with a dissociative disorder may get stuck on negative thinking, for example, and treatment like Cognitive behavioural therapy is a gold standard for breaking such thinking. And dialectical behaviour therapy, for example, can help a person manage their anguish through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for dissociative disorders?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioural, dialectical behaviour, psychodynamic, schema therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioural and dialectical behaviour therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful memories and past traumas. These therapies work to integrate an individual's different identities into one person.

Are there specific medications for dissociation?
There are no specific medications prescribed for dissociative disorders. However, psychosis, depression, anxiety, and/or panic often co-occur in dissociative disorders. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for any accompanying symptom which may include antipsychotics, antidepressants, or anti-anxiety drugs.

How often and how long are therapy sessions?
Like any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. There are still other patients, especially those who have co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, who may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months.
