What brings you to this search today? A current issue? At the surface maybe yes, but at a deeper level, maybe there's more. What might you be really seeking? Often life seems to keep throwing us challenges, situations that we don't want or like. Situations that are painful and even shameful. We might look at this, 'zoomed in' and try to manage or firefight, which can work in the short term. But there is another way if we zoom out a little and hold both views. What is the lesson I need to learn from this situation? What work might I need to do on myself to finally move forward? What gift might this painful situation have to offer?

Hi, I am Sam. I am a counsellor, a wife, mother, grandmother, and good all round human. I was 2 decades in education, supporting Autism and ADHD and children's mental health. I work with both neurodivergent (both diagnosed and not) and neurotypical adults. I understand only too well the ripple effect that mental health has on relationships and all parts of your life. There is a way forward, to heal and repair. Having someone that you feel you can trust and is really hearing you, can be the first step to a healthy and long recovery. Welcome, I look forward to meeting you.

Life can be overwhelming at times. Whether you’re feeling stuck, struggling with anxiety or low self-esteem, carrying the weight of past trauma, grief, or simply trying to rediscover joy and purpose, you don’t have to face it alone. I am an integrative counsellor, which means that where therapy is concerned, it's not a "one size fits all". I use different modalities, including Person Centred, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, CBT, EFT, Sand Tray and creativity. Every person is unique and deserves to live their full existence. I’m passionate about helping people reconnect with their true selves and build healthier lives.

I combine a Person Centred Approach with Somatic Trauma Psychotherapy to offer a therapeutic relationship that is able to be highly attuned, safe and adaptable to the varying needs of clients.
A core part of my way of being is my natural ability to hold a grounded space for those parts of ourselves we may fear, find shameful or wish to avoid. I am also actively interested in social justice and challenging systemic oppression, awareness of how these factors show up in our own experience can be a useful element in therapy.

I work with people who feel anxious, low, or stuck, often as a result of early life experiences that continue to affect their confidence, relationships, and sense of direction. Many of my clients also feel burned out or exhausted from coping on their own. With over 25 years’ experience in children and family social care, I bring a deep understanding of how early experiences shape how we see ourselves, relate to others, and cope in everyday life.

Instead of just managing symptoms, we look beneath conscious thoughts to resolve the root causes of distress, while building practical, somatic tools to help your nervous system step out of chronic survival mode.
Why do you feel anxious or guilty when nothing is wrong? Inexplicably tense around certain people, or suddenly flat and stripped of motivation? You've probably got so good at performing that those around you think you're thriving, but inside you're holding your breath. Managing this constant, silent exhaustion is draining. It can be a lonely place to live, trapped in cycles of overthinking and waiting for things to either work out, or fall apart. Working online gives us the flexibility to slow things down from the comfort of your own space; together, we can work out what's going on and safely resolve the patterns keeping you stuck.

Somatic psychotherapy supports you to slow down, reconnect with your body and begin to gently shift patterns that no longer serve you.
My work is body-based and trauma-informed, combining somatic psychotherapy and biodynamic massage. We explore how emotions and experiences are held in the body, supporting regulation, awareness, and a greater sense of grounding and connection.

Have you been thinking about counselling for some time? Maybe you’ve been putting it off, because you hope that things will get better, or that your problems aren’t important enough to seek help. Taking that first step can be really difficult. Finding the right therapist can be even harder. You might feel anxious, confused and intimidated by the choice. I understand the overwhelm and invite you to take that first step with me. If you have racing thoughts, worry excessively, or often feel “not good enough”, you are probably looking for support and coping strategies to help you live a more meaningful life.

Somatic Counsellors
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
