I offer a safe, compassionate place to talk about intimacy, relationships, sexual behaviours, erotic and sexual orientations, sexual bodies, and real vs. fantasised experiences. I work with individuals and couples, helping them find ways to live a more fulfilled and satisfying life. Over time, we develop ways of behaving, thinking and feeling that work well enough to get by, but sometimes get ‘stuck’; I’m trained and experienced in finding and understanding those patterns and, without judgement, getting to the heart of how to put things right. I’ve worked in private practice, charities and the NHS with a range of individual issues, particularly depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress and historical trauma; couples work includes relationship breakdown, affairs, communication and conflict challenges.

Maybe you’ve been carrying something for a long time, something you’ve never quite said out loud to anyone. It might be an exhausting pattern you keep returning to. A part of yourself that feels like too much, or not enough. Something about who you are, your sexuality, your identity, your history, that you’ve never fully brought into the light. I work with people navigating addiction and recovery, including chemsex; childhood trauma and shame; and questions around sexuality and gender. These aren’t separate territories to me. I know how deeply they can overlap and how tiring it is to hold them alone.

Often people find that painful experiences and relationships in their past mean that things in the present can be complicated and sometimes hard to bear. They affect how we feel about ourselves, how we feel about the world and how we relate to other people we encounter.  If we work together we’ll explore what brought you to therapy now and think together about where the difficulties in your present might have come from. I will listen very carefully to you in order to appreciate what you are feeling so that we can begin to see how you might find a greater freedom in your life.

It can be tricky to choose a therapist and understand the various titles therapists go by and the different types of therapies on offer. I think one of the most important factors in choosing a therapist is the fit between the client and therapist and whether the relationship feels warm and empathic. My therapeutic style is to identify and build on existing strengths and to offer a supportive space to explore difficulties and patterns of behaviour. Having had my own psychotherapy, I am familiar with what it feels like to be on the receiving end of therapy and I am sensitive to this during my work. (Online only- not in person).

In my opinion a free consultation is a must so you can get a chance to discuss what’s going on for you and how counselling could help. It’s also a chance to get a feel if we are a good match with no obligation to continue. I would be glad to hear from you to see if I can help you. "What to expect? I have a flexible approach to our sessions, I offer brief intervention work for short term problems which may be a reaction to a life event. Longer term therapy for difficulties you may have been experiencing over a long period of time.

Many people struggle in silence with sexual concerns - whether it's loss of desire, difficulties with arousal or orgasm, painful sex, sexual compulsivity, or shame around sexuality. These challenges can feel isolating, but you don’t have to navigate them alone. I work collaboratively and sensitively to help you understand what's going on beneath the surface and to move towards greater connection, confidence, and pleasure in your intimate life.

When should someone seek treatment for sex addiction?
People should seek treatment for sex addiction if they cannot control their sexual thoughts or behaviours to the point that it disrupts their ability to function in daily life, for example by threatening their finances, career, or relationships. This may include spending an excessive amount of time obsessing over sex, planning sex, watching pornography, or masturbating, as well as consistently engaging in risky sexual activities, using sex to escape distressing feelings, or attempting yet failing to control sexual behaviour.

What are the most common treatment options for sex addiction?
Psychotherapy is the most common treatment for sex addiction; therapy helps patients better understand their compulsive thoughts and behaviours and develop strategies to manage their desires. Therapy may be supplemented by medications, such as antidepressants, mood stabilizers, anti-androgens, alcohol and substance use medications, as well as support groups, such as 12-step programs.

How long does therapy take for sex addiction?
Recovering from compulsive behaviour takes time and effort. There’s no precise timeline for treatment, but research suggests 12 therapy sessions may be enough to see change. Treatment for sexual compulsions requires honesty in therapy, a commitment to understanding triggers and developing coping skills, and potential lifestyle changes such as cutting out alcohol or drugs.

What if sex addiction is left untreated?
Compulsive sexual behaviour can have serious repercussions if left unaddressed. For example, if sexual obsessions consume the vast majority of a person’s time, they may lose their job. If they can’t stop paying for sex, their finances may suffer. If they’re dishonest in their relationships, their partner may leave them. If they consistently feel shame, they may struggle with anxiety, depression, or loneliness. Therapy can help people develop the tools to manage sexual thoughts and behaviours that feel uncontrollable.
