If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure how to move forward, navigating the challenges of anxiety, persistent low mood, or struggling with social anxiety, OCD, or the effects of trauma. Maybe reaching a point where something needs to change but aren’t sure how to start. Seeking relief from symptoms but also a deeper understanding of what’s driving them. In our work together, we'll go beyond managing symptoms. I’ll help you explore how your past experiences and the beliefs you've developed over time may be shaping how you feel and respond today.

I work with children, teenagers and adults experiencing anxiety, trauma, low confidence and emotional overwhelm, including one-off incidents such as accidents or medical procedures.
I offer a calm, supportive space to make sense of what’s going on at a pace that feels manageable. Alongside psychotherapy, I offer EMDR to help process distressing experiences without needing to talk through everything in detail. Outdoor therapy can feel less pressured; working side by side, not sitting in a room and being able to incorporate movement.

Struggling to cope with negative emotions can feel very isolating and, by the nature of some problems, guilt and shame can make us feel stigmatised and prevent us reaching out for support even when its not our fault. People come to counselling for all kinds of reasons from childhood trauma to life events as adults such as divorce, bereavement and stress and what they all have in common is a desire to feel better and begin to enjoy life. Some people find they use alcohol or drugs in an attempt to cope with their feelings but inventively this creates more problems.

I work from the understanding that human experience includes distress, conflict, and harm, and that avoiding these realities is neither helpful nor therapeutic. In the therapy room, I offer a non-judgemental, reflective space where clients can explore their experiences honestly and at their own pace. My role is not to impose interpretations or provide simplistic reassurance, but to listen carefully, ask meaningful questions, and support clients in developing insight, emotional awareness, and psychological resilience.I see therapy as a collaborative process grounded in respect, autonomy, and ethical practice.

Hello, My name is Lucy, I am a qualified counsellor and Senior Psychological well-being practitioner for IAPT. I work in an integrative modality meaning the therapy will be led by you and what you would like to focus on. I strongly believe we are the best experts on ourselves but can sometimes become lost along the way and can refind ourselves or answer questions in therapy. I work with different counselling modalities and adapt to what may be more appropriate for you. Additionally, I can implement guided self-help CBT to help with any difficulties in the present and to provide coping strategies/interventions

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
