I have worked with many individuals over the last 24 years with a wide range of problems. My work tends to suit people who are naturally questioning and curious: about life, about themselves, and others. I am happy to work in a focused short term way through to longer term therapy. I work in an integrative way, which involves ideas from different approaches, and I have an interest in the existential dimensions of therapy: meaning and purpose, anxiety and uncertainty, values, freedom and responsibility and the idea of authenticity. My experience is in helping individuals find and create their own ways forward.

Sometimes we simply get stuck or lost and don't know which way to turn. This is true in all areas of life and not one of us is exempt. The feelings can result in anxiety, depression, stress which can impact relationships and work. Sometimes we have no idea whats going on and the simpliest of things can feel overwhelming. When offered a safe space to be really heard and understood, these feelings can begin to feel much smaller and no longer feel insurmountable

Life can sometimes be difficult and we may find ourselves struggling and feeling anxious, depressed and unconfident. We may find ourselves battling with the feelings evoked by loss, due to bereavement, relationship breakdown or even the children leaving home. Counselling is not a magic cure, but talking to an empathic, skilled therapist can help; fostering both the processing of difficult feelings and resilience to better deal with what life throws at us, enabling us to move forward. The effect of just being listened to by those who have hitherto struggled to be heard can be both powerful and empowering.

Clients approach me when they are seeking greater fulfilment in their lives. Anxiety, fear, and stress, can sometimes affect the relationship we have with ourselves and others . Clients always need to know that they are listened to and taken seriously. This is achieved by helping clients to become more tolerant and kinder to themselves. This is what I believe is the basis to my style of Psychotherapy.

Anxiety, depression, trauma, menopause – they all suck! I know because I’ve been where you are right now. And what you’re looking for is a way out of the dark space you’re in, right? So doesn’t it make sense to be guided by someone who knows the way? Who has been there and done it themselves? Nothing gives me more joy than guiding people along a path that has been trodden by not just me, but many others just like you!

Most people suffer from psychological, personal, professional or social difficulties at some point in their lives. It is when these difficulties become overwhelming that seeking help from a therapist may be the most positive step forward. Psychotherapy provides a relaxed environment that is safe, confidential and non-judgemental, a space where thoughts and feelings can be explored leading toward a clearer understanding of yourself and your responses to life experiences. This can help to provide you with the tools that will enable you to cope more effectively with everyday life and distressing periods or life-changing events.

Feeling hopeless, lost or stuck repeating the same unhappy patterns? I work as a Counsellor with people like you who are struggling and ready for change by helping them get to know themselves at a whole new depth. Together, we strive to work through any foggy and confusing emotions you’re feeling to work out what’s really going on for you, whether that’s at home, in your relationships or at work. We’ll then use that knowledge to work out what you really want out of therapy, so we keep our sessions moving in a direction that’s useful to you.

I am an integrative counsellor as being able to look at a person as a whole is so important, to understand the past, present and future. It is really important for me that you feel safe and non judged so that we can truly explore and work on the problems that you bring. In the understanding we find from what is going on for you we can then look into what strategies and resources we can put in place to help you manage the present and therefore find a more contented present. It isn't about finding perfect as it doesn't exist but getting through life the best we can and counselling can help you do that!

How can I find a therapist in Suffolk?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
