I am an experienced psychotherapist and I work with individuals and couples who come to see me with a wide range of challenges and difficulties that they are facing.
Coming for counselling can be a difficult and even fearful moment in our lives but I am here to offer you a safe and confidential space.I am influenced by several therapeutic approaches, but my central approach is psychodynamic which means I will pay attention to every aspect of your lived experience, including your past, as a way of understanding you.

All of us experience challenges as part of life. When these are traumatic or overwhelming, they deplete our energy, create blockages, hinder healthy functioning, disconnect from our power and take us out of our inner alignment. Despite being outwardly successful, you may feel that something is missing within you and you are not truly yourself. There are many reasons for why this might have happened and for some people this starts very early in their childhood, for others later in life and in both instances, there are ways in which these experiences can be explored and transformed into an inner healing and positive growth process.

My clients have a variety of issues. I encourage my clients to have a sense of curiosity about themselves and their process in our work together. Throughout therapy, I seek to meet such needs as genuine understanding and acceptance as well as the provision of a space of safety when clients may be experiencing a life situation or condition that feels unsafe. If you are seeking a therapist with shared lives experience, I can offer personal insights to clients who are seeking counselling for immune illnesses / bowel disease-related depression and anxiety.

Sometimes issues and experiences build up in life, or we somehow lose our way. Or something happens that is outside of our control and we get thrown by it. When we reach out and speak about what is bothering us it gives us the opportunity to 'get out from under the experience', to make sense of what we are feeling and why we might be feeling that. This brings the possibility of using our current and past experiences and states to explore what in all of that might be useful for us, to move and to grow and flourish.

For couples, I help to find a deeper understanding and connection with each other.
I am aware that it can be a bit daunting to know who to speak with, so many counsellors to choose from. My aim is to make the process of reaching out for support as reassuring and stress free as possible. The relationship with ourselves is central to how we are, having the time and space to explore our deeper questions and concerns and working through them, can offer us a greater sense of peace within ourselves. A quote 'When a person has been hurt in a relationship, they can only be healed in a relationship' - therapy offers a therapeutic relationship to begin to heal our past hurts.

We all face difficult times in life, in fact I think we could just say, life is difficult. In counselling you will be thinking with another person about how you manage life’s struggles, how you relate to friends and family and how your present situation may be related to your past experiences. Talking and thinking with another can bring about a new perspective to old problems or worries and help you find new ways of approaching things. in. In my experience even small changes can have a very positive impact. Speaking to someone might feel a bit daunting to begin with but I find people soon settle in.

Marriage Counselling Counsellors
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
