Now more than ever we are living in a world where contact with others has become increasingly difficult, not just physically but also emotionally. It would be understandable for many people to be feeling isolated and cut of from the rest of humanity at this time, for some this may also trigger painful, old wounds of unmet needs and maybe even a sense of hopelessness. You may crave feeling really connected to someone who is fully present with you and is invested in really understanding you and your situation, someone who can help you to create a relationship that will help to heal relationships that have failed in the past.

Perhaps you are struggling in a relationship with your partner , family member, or work colleague or just find it difficult to find confidence or self-esteem.
Therapy offers an important step in discovering the world around us and finding our place in it. For some people, coming to therapy is a big step. It can take courage to identify a need to heal, recover or progress. My approach aims to ensure that you feel safe in the knowledge that you can trust the therapeutic process. Maintaining the core values of empathy, unconditional positive regard for you as well as congruence (being authentic), I also use other modes of therapy.

I am a counsellor with extensive work and life experiences. In my practice now, I mainly work with couples . Has your relationship changed and you feel unhappy, sad or unheard, remember change can happen. Relationships are challenging; we have two different people with different wants and needs and that can be challenging to face up to. When we go into a new relationship , we invest our hopes, needs and desires and when things go wrong, it brings up different and often difficult emotions. I offer a safe space where both people can be heard and seen, so by identifying the root of your differences, positive changes can happen.

You might be in crisis: a relationship breakdown, sudden news of the death of a loved one or an illness, a work loss, or at an emotional or spiritual crossroads. Or you may generally have the feeling that your life isn't all you'd like it to be - you feel stuck, aren't living up to your potential or feeling as fulfilled or happy as you would like. Either way, you can be supported to navigate successfully through the very choppy waters of crisis - or the fog of confusion or uncertainty. You don't have to go it alone! You may well emerge from the other side a stronger and happier person than you ever thought possible.

I will create a warm and respectful relationship so that you feel safe enough to explore what brings you to counselling.
Hi, I'm Zak. If you're looking for someone to talk to, someone apart from your friends and family, who won’t judge you for how you’re feeling, get in touch. You might need space to explore your thoughts and feelings, to make sense of your experiences and patterns. Maybe something happened to you, or maybe nothing in particular happened, but either way you feel things aren’t right. Therapy is a place to lay it all out on the table, and together we can talk about what’s going on for you.

Inspired by the work of Carl Rogers, I believe that it is the nature and quality of the counselling relationship which creates a truly therapeutic and beneficial experience for the client.
If you are struggling with feelings of low self-esteem, stress, anxiety, depression or bereavement or if you are having problems in your relationships at home or at work, counselling might be able to help you to make important changes in your life. Counselling provides a special therapeutic relationship where you will not be judged and where you will be given the respect and empathy that is needed for you to truly express yourself. Without providing advice, instructions or directions I aim to empower my clients so that they can work towards a happier future.

Choosing a counsellor with whom to connect and build a trusting therapeutic relationship can feel daunting, even risky, yet also empowering and hopeful. What does it feel like to take off masks, shedding protective layers that keep the authentic, vulnerable self safe while navigating through challenging or traumatic times? Together we can explore what you feel ready and safe to share - whether these are current, buried or almost forgotten experiences. I will be at your side to listen; endeavouring to relate to your unique circumstances and way of being; facilitative of your change and growth process.

Couples Counselling

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
