We all face difficult times in life, in fact I think we could just say, life is difficult. In counselling you will be thinking with another person about how you manage life’s struggles, how you relate to friends and family and how your present situation may be related to your past experiences. Talking and thinking with another can bring about a new perspective to old problems or worries and help you find new ways of approaching things. in. In my experience even small changes can have a very positive impact. Speaking to someone might feel a bit daunting to begin with but I find people soon settle in.

Hi, I am Max ( Qualified Person Centred Therapist) and I know from my own experience, that life can sometimes be a struggle. Events and experiences can leave us feeling lost, isolated or directionless . Counselling is an opportunity to explore thoughts and feelings ,which might be affecting many different areas of your life. With careful and empathic listening, I endeavour to support you in finding your own way through what is often too complex and difficult to manage alone.

Not as sure of yourself as you used to be, not feeling good about how your life or relationships have turned out, yearning for something but not sure what that is or just recognising that you no longer want to put up with the feelings, thoughts or that way your body feels. These kinds of experiences are a part what it is to be human and when we're ready to change, it's good to have help. With me its a collaborative effort in which I learn about you and you find out more about yourself; what you want, what's blocking that and how you might resolve those blocks, make changes and realise more of your potential.

At the heart of my practice is the therapeutic relationship, a space where trust can develop, and where you can feel deeply heard, valued, and met as you are. I will provide you with a space for exploration of your life and 'self', offering an opportunity to gain awareness, express, release and move through things that are no longer serving you. I see my role as a witness, companion, detective, and champion on this explorative journey of yours. I work with a wide range of issues with people from many walks of life.

The main issues I tend to work with are: trauma (childhood/sexual or domestic abuse), relational issues, and loss ( grief, divorce, significant health diagnosis).
Do you need a space that feels safe to talk about things that you have never talked about before? To talk to someone who is there to fully listen to you with no distractions or agenda? Sometimes life can feel in limbo and a change of direction feels hard to navigate, talking things through can help bring about the changes you want to see. Perhaps circumstances feel overwhelming and you need to consider what's going on and where you go next. Or has something from the past never left and needs addressing? Do you feel sad and don't know why? Maybe it feels like you are angry all the time? People bring this and more to therapy with me.

Now more than ever we are living in a world where contact with others has become increasingly difficult, not just physically but also emotionally. It would be understandable for many people to be feeling isolated and cut of from the rest of humanity at this time, for some this may also trigger painful, old wounds of unmet needs and maybe even a sense of hopelessness. You may crave feeling really connected to someone who is fully present with you and is invested in really understanding you and your situation, someone who can help you to create a relationship that will help to heal relationships that have failed in the past.

As an IFS (Internal Family Systems) therapist I can support you to be with any aspect of your inner world that gives rise to suffering, with an open heart and open mind. This quality of presence catalyses a healing process resulting in greater access to love, peace and joy. Living in a body in the world is no easy ride and we inevitably face experiences that are difficult to process which can lead to a wide range of negative consequences. Counter-intuitively, if we dare to explore these areas of our inner world, accompanied by a skilful guide, we can grow and deepen into qualities and capacities that have been constrained.

I have extensive experience in loss and bereavement, and in trauma-informed therapy helping survivors of sexual abuse and domestic violence.
I work with adults both face-to-face and online, however, I am currently accepting only ONLINE work. You may be feeling stuck, seeing obstacles in every direction, or finding it hard to move forward. Perhaps you’re used to presenting as strong and capable, yet inside, things feel chaotic or uncertain. My therapeutic approach is broad and offers each client a therapeutic pathway which is unique to who they are.

I work with children, young people and their families, often when things are feeling difficult or overwhelming. Some of the reasons families have worked with me include: support to understand and manage feelings of anxiety, depression or frustration; difficulties with emotion-regulation; and difficulties within family relationships, including parent-infant and parent-child relationships.

Starting therapy can be daunting. Perhaps you are unsure if you ‘need’ therapy, or whether therapy can help with your particular issue. Maybe you are struggling with feelings of shame, or trying to navigate challenging relationship dynamics, or would simply like to understand yourself more deeply. I bring an attitude of curiosity, inclusivity and acceptance to my practice, working from a fundamental belief that we all, no matter who we are or believe ourselves to be, deserve compassion and acceptance. 'Where something becomes extremely difficult and unbearable, there we also stand already quite near its transformation' Rilke

Do you need help with a difficult time in your life? Are you feeling low or anxious, consumed with worry? Perhaps what helped in the past is no longer working. You may be feeling numb or withdrawn. Are traumatic events from your past resurfacing? These challenging experiences are part of us, and when we feel ready it is good to have help. I work closely along side you and together we find out more about yourself, what you want, what is blocking you and how you might overcome this. By addressing these issues can help remove shackles allowing you to grow and realize your full potential.

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
