Accepting that you need the help of someone else can be hard. Making the decision to attend counselling can be even harder. Partners, peers and family may not understand, you may feel like you've failed somehow, you may feel like you are not enough. This is far from the truth however. Attending counselling is often the first step on a journey that allows us to confront our difficulties, face our fears, become more self-aware and ultimately take a path that can lead to a better life.

Hello I'm Sam, a psychotherapist in advanced clinical training. If you are feeling stuck in patterns impacting your relationships, career, or happiness, and feeling like you're on autopilot, I can help you break free from past influences that no longer work for you. Anxiety of all levels could be preventing you from feeling present in the moment but together, we will work to uncover its source and take away its power so you can get on with living a happier, less stressful life. I am particularly interested in helping with overthinking, stress, overwhelm and working with clients who feel they cannot be themself.

NOW Accepting New Clients! Every man probably has his own definition of success and although you hit many milestones in terms of status and earnings, but you're finding that success doesn't feel like you hoped it would. -You struggle to concentrate, especially at work -You find it hard to be assertive, and avoid conflict at all costs -You don't feel like you can be yourself in front of work colleagues and family members -You constantly replay past conversations in your head You’ve probably tried other methods of healing, and take better care of yourself than you did in your 20’s…but something still feels like it’s missing.

I know it can be overwhelming to sift through all these profiles, so I’ll keep it simple. I'm a qualified therapist with 12 years of full-time experience. I'm a friendly, down-to-earth bloke with a good sense of humour, and I've gained (a bit of) the wisdom that comes with age and experience. My goal is to understand and support you, but I'll also challenge you to break free from whatever is holding you back when needed. I have a proven track record of helping people reduce distress, understand themselves better, and navigate life more effectively.

I work with many different issues and specialise in working with men's issues, people who live with anxiety, are older adults, grew up in care or are carers needing space for themselves.
Whether you're experiencing anxiety, stress, grief, relationship challenges, or simply need someone to talk to, I offer a safe, supportive, and confidential space where you can feel heard and understood. I have been a foster carer for over seven years, and I also grew up in a fostering family, as my own parents were foster carers. This unique perspective gives me a deep and personal understanding of life in care—both from the viewpoint of fostered children and those who care for them. Challenges in adult life often have roots in early childhood. By exploring your beliefs and behaviours it becomes easier to navigate everyday life.

Every day, many men fall foul of overwhelm, burnout, and self-sabotage. Just one bad day or poor decision can threaten your health, relationships, and work – or destroy your reputation, peace, and sanity. To maneuver in the modern world, manage your own ego, and build and protect psychological fitness and long-term performance, facing the man in the mirror is no longer optional. My job is to make this as easy as possible, and help prevent you from becoming a statistic. Having delivered over 6000 consultations for a broad range of challenges, I offer a pragmatic and results-focused approach for those ready to do the work.

My expertise is working with men's issues, anxiety, anger, and self-limiting beliefs.
“Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and die with their song still inside them” Men don’t suffer more psychological disorders than women overall, however, the way men suffer them can be more destructive and problematic as they tend to externalise their suffering in the form of violence, substance abuse, anger, aggression, etc. Moreover, men’s psychological suffering is further compounded by men often hiding their issues and being reluctant to report symptoms. My mission is to work with men to help them become the type of man they want to be and so to lead their 'best lives'.

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
