I understand neurodiversity, because I have ADHD.
Recently, I've been working with a lot of clients who have substance misuse issues.
These can greatly affect a persons confidence and I feel I am good at helping clients address their issues and go on to live the life they deserve.
I'm also experienced at working with clients suffering bereavement issues. Sometimes its hard to make sense of someone's loss. Let me help you explore that grief and ways in which you can look at moving on from your loss.
I offer a safe warm space for our sessions. I'm happy to work at the clients pace and my aim is to help you develop as a person.

Accepting that you need the help of someone else can be hard. Making the decision to attend counselling can be even harder. Partners, peers and family may not understand, you may feel like you've failed somehow, you may feel like you are not enough. This is far from the truth however.
Attending counselling is often the first step on a journey that allows us to confront our difficulties, face our fears, become more self-aware and ultimately take a path that can lead to a better life.

Looking for a therapist can be a daunting experience, especially if things are tough for you right now, but you have taken the first step! I have experienced many times, both as a counsellor and personally in therapy, how people begin to feel less burdened and overwhelmed in their life when they feel really heard and accepted without judgement or criticism. I believe that the counselling relationship is a collaborative and dynamic process, and I am always receptive to feedback, as it can shape the dynamic between us. I feel that therapy can be proactive, and not just reactive. I have no expectations on what we speak about.

I specialise in ADHD, co-dependency & attachment issues, anxiety, self-worth & self-acceptance, intrusive thoughts, inner critical voice, and destructive coping mechanisms.
Hello, I am David, an experienced qualified Pluralistic counsellor. I believe no single counselling approach or modality will fit every client and presenting issue as we are all unique individuals with our own stories to tell. I tailor my approach to you, using the therapeutic modalities that best address and resolve your problems, with your collaboration and agreement. At the heart of my counselling style is the belief clients heal through exploring how their issues arose, where these come from, and crucially how to make the changes needed to feel at ease with themselves and make lasting improvement. I help clients do this.

I support clients in understanding themselves deeply within the context of their life experiences, upbringing, and culture, exploring how these aspects shape current wellbeing and behaviours. Together, we recognise and honour core needs, cultivating the self-compassion to advocate for them. We may process painful elements of the past that have created barriers - to feel freer and gain autonomy in the present. I aim to foster an attuned relationship where you can navigate the often complex yet affirming process of reconnecting with your authentic self, while gently challenging relational patterns that may be keeping you stuck.

Are you struggling with intimacy, sexual confidence, or feeling disconnected from your partner or your own body?
Difficulties with sex and relationships are incredibly common, but many people feel too ashamed or anxious to talk about them. This can be from a combination of how sex was talked about in your household, your sex education, early sexual experiences and unpleasant sexual experiences. Therapy offers a safe and supportive space to explore what’s going on and begin to move forward.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioural therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
