Women's Issues Counselling in Street
I work with a wide range of diverse needs and people, but particularly those struggling with anxiety, self-doubt, poor self-esteem and the feeling that they are just not good enough.
Many of the people I work with find themselves feeling constantly anxious - worrying about what other people think of them, trying to keep everyone happy or believing they are flawed and not good enough. They are often exhausted and frustrated that they can't find a way to break free from this.

Collapse-Aware, Decolonizing Psychotherapy.
Working outdoors and/or in a cosy cabin in the town centre.
Bearing witness to the collapse of multiple systems, more of us grow increasingly estranged from the values of capitalism. Watching the legacy of colonialism play out before us on the world stage while living with it inscribed on our bodies can push us to the edge of despair.
Psychotherapy in this time and place calls for Radical Hope.
Audre Lourde said "The masters tools will never dismantle the masters house.". Decolonizing psychotherapy acknowledges the past, centres us in the present and actively constructs the future.

Hi, thank you for stopping by.
You may be someone who feels things deeply and thinks in complex or creative ways. Perhaps you are exhausted from masking and holding things together. You may be struggling with anxiety, burnout, self-doubt, perfectionism, relationship difficulties, or feeling disconnected from yourself, your identity or your creativity. Living with depth of feeling and awareness can be a strength, but it can also leave you feeling exhausted and misunderstood, unsure of who you are beneath the roles you have learned to play.

You may feel overwhelmed, unseen, or unsure how to make sense of your identity, past or present. Perhaps you’re LGBTQ+, neurodivergent, or carrying trauma. Maybe early experiences shaped how you see yourself, and you’re ready for that to change. You want someone who understands without judgment. You’re hoping to unmask, understand and share your emotions, heal old wounds, and grow into a steadier sense of who you are and what you want. Most of all, you’re longing for a safe, warm space where you can finally feel understood and supported.

I am interested in helping women understand how their inner and outer worlds interact and how the experience of being female in a patriarchal society shapes our emotional lives. If there a specific life event or relationship you would like to address, or painful experiences in your past that you need to safely talk through or you find yourself feeling unhappy, anxious or stuck, I may be able to help.

You are probably feeling very upset, alone and confused, maybe even ashamed and wondering if counselling could help? Everyone who comes to therapy has a unique set of issues but the underlying need to share the distress and be understood, is true for everyone. If you are struggling with parenting, postnatal depression, miscarriage or your identity during a life transition, you are not alone. I have lots of experience working with women (and men) who are struggling with life and want to feel better than they currently do. I also help younger people and teens who may have self esteem issues, feel sad, anxious or be self harming.

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realised.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
