I see clients in person in my consulting room in a central, yet quiet location in Wells, Somerset.
Are you struggling with issues related to anxiety, depression, relationships, life transitions, academic challenges, identity, self-esteem, loss, and trauma? Perhaps you feel stuck, disconnected, or unsure of who you really are beneath everyone else's expectations? In our work together, we explore these experiences, helping you make sense of what is happening for you. Psychodynamic counselling goes beyond quick fixes; this approach helps you understand why. If this speaks to you, I would be glad to support you. I also work with children and young people, supporting them with a wide range of emotional and behavioural challenges.

Life can be incredibly painful and confusing. There can be times we don’t know what to do or where to turn. Counselling and psychotherapy can offer a safe space to try and work things out and find a better, more fulfilling way of life. It can sometimes helpful to look at the past, to help us better understand And heal the present. I have over 20 years experience. I also work for BACP - British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy in the Professional Standards team.

Our counselling offers help in addressing the difficult areas of your life. This might involve loss and grief, relationship troubles or problems at work. Equally, there are times when the cause is not clear but you still feel something is wrong. Colleagues, family and friends can be a great source of support but it's not always easy to confide in those closest to you. At times like these, talking to someone who is not personally involved can make a difference. A professional counsellor will listen to you without making judgments and can help you find new resources within yourself.

I work with adults, teenagers and children online, face-to-face or within a school setting.
Every so often life throws things at us that we struggle to deal with or understand. This can be anything from the loss of a loved one to break down in relationship with family members to receiving a life changing diagnosis. It can be because of these things that we begin to question things in our everyday life and who we are. Having suffered a grief which ultimately changed the course of my life, experienced breakdowns in relationships, supported my own child through an ADHD diagnosis and not understanding how my past had affected me I understand how it feels to go through these struggles.

You may feel overwhelmed, unseen, or unsure how to make sense of your identity, past or present. Perhaps you’re LGBTQ+, neurodivergent, or carrying trauma. You’re hoping to unmask, understand and share your emotions, heal old wounds, and grow into a steadier sense of who you are and what you want. Most of all, you’re longing for a safe, warm space where you can finally feel understood and supported.

I offer face to face sessions at my treatment room here in our farmhouse & via Skype/Zoom
Before I tell a little about myself, allow me to say, well done for getting this far! I appreciate that many people become a little anxious at the prospect of an intense atmosphere in a counselling room. Thats not how I work though. My first aim is to help you relax. To see that yes, it is a 'safe and confidential environment for you to talk about anything that you want'. But there's no need for it to be a heavy and intense atmosphere either. I believe we can be practical, pragmatic and make some real changes without sacrificing empathy or compassion.

Hi, I'm Julie, and I am passionate about working with people who have experienced abuse or trauma, whether it be sexual, physical or emotional. When we experience trauma we lose part of who we truly are because of the after effects, such as anxiety, depression, panic attacks, nervous system disregulation, flashbacks and dissociation (when we feel distanced from our emotions or ‘spaced out’, as if we’re living on autopilot). I love helping people rediscover who they really are by creating an environment in which they feel safe and completely accepted. I don't analyse you but with careful listening will know what we need to work on.

I have an MSc with distinction in person centred counselling
Hi, my name is Claire, I am passionate about helping people with a range of presenting issues such as low mood, anxiety, grief, neurodivergence, trauma bonds, narcissistic relationship recovery and whatever you wish to bring into the space. We work together on a journey which is unique, and I walk alongside you as you move towards a more authentic and peaceful place. Having a non judgemental space in which to talk means that you can clear those things which feel 'stuck' without a need to reciprocate that for someone else, fostering greater personal clarity and movement.

I see clients online, with flexibility for shift workers, and in person with limited availability.
You don’t need to have it all worked out, or even know what’s going on. If life feels like it should be different but you’re not sure how, this is a great starting point. You might feel alone carrying whatever it is - untangible, anxious, ashamed, or stuck in repeating patterns that leave you frustrated or disconnected. Some carry the impact of early life trauma or have learned to hide parts of themselves just to get by. You might be questioning your identity, struggling with intimacy, feeling disconnected from your body, or wanting to explore your relationship style, including non-traditional setups.

FAQ - About In Person Therapy
What are the benefits of in-person therapy?
In-person therapy offers several benefits that some people find highly valuable for their mental health treatment. Being present in the same room as your therapist can create a stronger sense of connection and allow for more nuanced communication through body language. Some people may also find it easier to focus in therapy when they are in a dedicated space and away from potential distractions related to home or work; attending an in-person session provides a clear boundary between therapy time and the rest of your life. For certain therapeutic approaches, such as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), exposure therapy, or somatic therapy, being in person may be particularly important, as these therapies benefit from the therapist being able to observe and respond to a client’s physical cues effectively. Additionally, some individuals simply feel more comfortable discussing sensitive or painful topics when they are face-to-face with their therapist rather than on a screen.

When should I choose in-person therapy over online therapy?
In-person therapy may be a better choice when you need a structured therapeutic environment separate from your daily life, when you find it difficult to focus or feel comfortable in an online setting, or when privacy at home is a concern. It may also be more appropriate if you are dealing with severe mental health symptoms that require close monitoring or if your therapy involves approaches that rely heavily on observing physical cues. On the other hand, if convenience, scheduling flexibility, or access to specialists outside your immediate area are priorities, online therapy may be a better fit. Many therapists offer both options, so you can also discuss with a provider which format might work best for your specific situation.

How do I find an in-person therapist?
You can use Psychology Today's therapist directory to find an in-person therapist in your area. You can search by location, insurance accepted, specialty areas, therapeutic approaches, and other criteria to narrow down providers who meet your needs. Each therapist profile includes information about their credentials, areas of expertise, and whether they offer in-person sessions. Once you have identified potential therapists, you can contact them directly through the directory to schedule an initial consultation and determine whether they are a good fit before committing to ongoing treatment. When reaching out, it can be helpful to confirm their availability for in-person appointments, their office location, and whether they accept your insurance.
