Bereavement Counselling in Stowmarket

Psychotherapist, MA, HCPC-Art Therap.
Does something not feel quite right, but you can’t yet pinpoint why? You're feeling frustrated, disconnected or stuck in unhelpful patterns? I work with people who are willing to stay curious, even when therapy feels challenging. As a neurodivergent therapist, I bring intuition, warmth and deep care to the work. I won’t force meaning or assume I know you better than you know yourself. Together, we build trust and safety, making space to explore difficult emotions and move towards greater understanding, clarity and change.

Maybe you are struggling at present to understand why things are the way they are? Sometimes we can all get stuck in patterns of relating, both with ourselves and others, that are not the most helpful or productive. Sometimes this means our relationships might suffer, or our life, career and family choices. Having therapy with an experienced practitioner can help you. Therapy is about building a shared understanding of what you are facing. If you are struggling with trauma, family issues, career issues, relationships, abuse, coping difficulties, I can help. I am also happy working with children and adolescents

I work with adults, couples, and young people, supporting a wide range of experiences including anxiety, stress, trauma, bereavement, relationship difficulties, domestic abuse, and low self-esteem.
Taking the first step into counselling often comes at a moment when life feels heavier than it should. You might be carrying a lot of responsibilities, emotions, other people’s needs and somewhere along the way, you’ve stopped having space for yourself. If that’s where you are, you’re not alone. I offer a calm, steady space where you can breathe, talk, and make sense of what’s been happening inside you. Many of my clients come to me when they feel stuck, overwhelmed by responsibility, or caught in cycles of guilt, anxiety, or emotional exhaustion. Together, we slow things down so you can regain clarity, strength, and a way forward.

I can help if you think about life changes, such as considering marriage, divorce, retirement, career change or if you are trying to cope with grief and loss.
The patient comes to therapy to be understood. The purpose of the relationship with the therapist is to understand and accept the feelings in a completely new way. Insight into the actual relationship created by the patient and therapist can lead to profound changes in personality.

I have experience in and work with many issues including but not limited to Anxiety, Depression, Low Self-Esteem, Confidence, Relationship Issues, Stress, Life Transitions, Loss and Bereavement.
You don’t have to carry everything on your own, counselling can be a space where you finally feel heard, supported, and understood. It can help you move forward in life with clarity. Counselling can support you to navigate the stresses and strains of life, whilst learning about yourself along the way. You don't have to be in crisis to seek support, sometimes we just need some extra support to navigate the struggles of day to day life.  Having experienced counselling myself, I understand how powerful it can be to have a safe space to talk, reflect, and feel genuinely supported.

I offer EMDR weekly sessions and EMDR Intensives, CBT and Couples Counselling therapy and the aim is to help you to regain a sense of wellbeing and enjoyment in your life. During the initial assessment we will work together to understand your main problems, what is keeping you 'stuck' and then agree on an individualised treatment plan to help you move forward with clear treatment goals. CBT is an effective treatment that can help you in the here and now and EMDR is useful for getting to the roots of the problem. I find that both work well, in different ways to bring about an improvement in emotional and physical health.

I specialize in COUPLES' ISSUES /relational issues, as well as depression, anxiety, divorce separation, addiction, co-dependency, social anxiety, loss, sexual issues, domestic violence, identity issues and addressing trauma histories.
As it is normal to experience emotional difficulties during life, counselling is one way of supporting you at such times. Some of the ways that couples therapy can work include, identifying toxic relationship patterns and helping couples to work on changing these, bringing a new perspective to issues and helping couples to understand each other's perspectives, finding new ways to resolve conflicts, building trust and improving communication. Most importantly, providing a safe space for both partners to work through their issues.

I offer a warm, supportive space where we can explore anxiety, overthinking, anger, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, grief, and the impact of challenging life experiences.
Hi, I'm Leigh, and I believe people usually come to therapy not because something is “wrong” with them, but because life has become overwhelming or difficult to carry alone. Many of the people I work with struggle with anxiety, overthinking, anger, low self-esteem, or relationship difficulties and feel stuck in patterns they don’t fully understand. My approach is warm, collaborative, and non-judgemental. Together we can explore what’s going on beneath the surface, develop greater self-understanding, and begin finding ways forward that feel more manageable and empowering.

I am a qualified, integrative counsellor with experience of working with both adults and young people over the age of 18. I also work with organizations and EAP schemes, and happily accept new enquiries from these. Experiencing difficulties in life, while this may be inevitable, can be incredibly painful and isolating. My aim within my practice is to foster a safe, non-judgmental, and empathic environment, where you can freely explore your concerns and worries. Taking that first step in counselling and finding the right therapist can be a daunting prospect, so I will endeavour to make sure that you feel as comfortable as possible.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
