So, I integrate person-centred therapy with attachment and psychodynamic theories in formulating a treatment plan for you.
Need therapy beyond friends, podcasts and self-help books that no longer help? Perhaps it is time to speak with a professional. I know that not everyone has a 'problem' as such but we sometimes simply want to understand ourselves better, figure out how we end up in the situations we keep finding ourselves and explore our feelings discreetly without judgement. Whatever your reasons for seeking therapy at this time, I welcome you. I am Sade and I am here to accompany you in your journey towards self-knowledge and change. It won't always be easy (you probably know that) but you will no longer be alone.

I believe we are all susceptible, at some point in our lives, to feeling overwhelmed by what life can bring. Sometimes we encounter experiences that are hard for us to come to terms with leaving us in need of support, this may be in the form of a bereavement, a relationship breakdown, a job loss; any event that we struggle to comprehend and understand. Other times a series of events may have taken place that leave us feeling like we are walking under a big black cloud and fail to see a way forward. At times like this counselling can help.

I use an integrative model which draws upon commonalities between cognitive-behavioural, humanistic and psychodynamic counselling approaches and allows me to tailor my work to meet the needs of each individual client.
My practice is centred around acceptance of you as an individual. You will be provided with a safe space to be heard and validated without judgment, pressure, or expectation. I feel that my genuine approach and kind, warm nature positively impacts my relationships with clients which is essential for therapeutic success. Together, we will work to explore and understand what is happening beneath the surface, identify patterns, and make links between the past and the present. I believe that this is the key to building self-awareness and self-love.

Abuse can have a significant affect on mental health. Whether the abuse happened as a child or as an adult, abusive experiences can lead to low mood, high anxiety, flashbacks to incidents, difficulty trusting others as well as low self-confidence and self-esteem, even when the abuse is historic. These are all normal reactions to difficult and painful experiences. I have worked with people who have experienced abuse for the last 15 years. The work has been transformational for some clients and very helpful for others, whether the abuse is within the family, workplace or within a relationship.

How would you feel if I told you that you can stop feeling scared, unsafe and overwhelmed ? That you could connect with those around you in an authentic and meaningful way, rather than masking yourself because you fear losing them ? I can tell you this as I have supported many people like yourself, living with complex trauma to let go of the patterns that are keeping them low, anxious, dissociated, paranoid and lonely. I work with people just like you to firstly understand what has happened to them and how the strategies they are currently using have come to be. I then work to introduce new ways of being in the world.

My ideal clients are adults who feel emotionally overwhelmed, anxious, exhausted, or stuck in unhelpful patterns such as people-pleasing, overthinking, low self-worth, or burnout. Many appear to cope outwardly while struggling internally with stress, trauma, or the lasting impact of difficult life experiences. I offer a warm, trauma-informed approach influenced by CBT, helping clients better understand their thoughts, emotions, relationships, and nervous system responses. Together, we work towards greater self-understanding, healthier coping strategies, emotional balance, and lasting change.

Psychodynamic Counsellors
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
