I specialise in adult autism, ADHD, and AuDHD.
I am a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and registered member of the BACP. I offer support with making sense of your unique place in the world, and accompanying movement toward resilience and self-acceptance. I understand that this process can be difficult and confusing, and so I can provide a variety of ways in which you may recognise your emotions, or feeling states. This can include talking and thinking, as well as sensing it in your body. I work from a holistic outlook, underpinned by humanistic and relational counselling and psychotherapy.

My approach is inclusive towards those who are neurodiverse, with a extensive background in supporting those who face challenges related to specific presentations such as Autism and ADHD.
The heart of my work is grounded in the person-centred approach, but also considers other theories and modalities allowing me to become an integrative therapist. I value each individual’s uniqueness, strengths, and capacity for growth, and believe that true healing happens within a safe, non-judgemental relationship where you feel heard and accepted.

In these challenging times you may be experiencing anxiety, struggling to make sense of your world while coping with existing emotional issues. I understand how difficult this can be and offer a safe, confidential space where we can explore the issues or events that have led you to seek counselling. At various stages in our lives we can struggle to make sense of things, whether in our relationships, working lives, due to bereavement or any major life event. This can result in feelings of anxiety, low self esteem, depression and lack of motivation and energy. We may feel our relationships are in crisis and cannot see a way through.

I believe we are all susceptible, at some point in our lives, to feeling overwhelmed by what life can bring. Sometimes we encounter experiences that are hard for us to come to terms with leaving us in need of support, this may be in the form of a bereavement, a relationship breakdown, a job loss; any event that we struggle to comprehend and understand. Other times a series of events may have taken place that leave us feeling like we are walking under a big black cloud and fail to see a way forward. At times like this counselling can help.

I have a particular interest in supporting neurodivergent individuals, including those navigating a later diagnosis of autism or ADHD.
My approach combines evidence-based CBT with warmth, flexibility, and collaboration. I aim to create a space where nothing is “too much”, “too embarrassing”, or “too difficult” to talk about. Without judgement or shame, we can explore challenges openly, develop new understanding, and build practical strategies for meaningful, lasting change.

Mu name is Emma and I believe that everyone has the ability to find answers within themselves. My practice is characterised by creativity, utilising techniques such as sand tray work, art, fairy tales, and metaphors. Importantly, you don’t need to be an artist to engage in this creative process. I will offer a warm friendly space, a comfy sofa and a cuppa for you to relax, so if talking is your thing, then we can do that too. There is no pressure to be creative in our sessions, its just another way of expressing and exploring our feelings. I specialise in working with children and young people as well as adults.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioural therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
