I was a client before I was a counsellor and I know from experience that seeking support isn't always easy. My first priority is to make accessing support as stress free as possible by establishing an informal yet supportive environment. By creating a space which is free of judgement and where there is no problem more or less worthy than another, I've helped many people work through some of their toughest moments. I've helped clients of various ages and from a range of backgrounds work through issues including anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem, loneliness, relationships, domestic / sexual abuse, loss and trauma.

Isn’t it strange how we talk the least about the things we think about the most?! Talking about your feelings, your emotions, your behaviours and your thoughts can feel overwhelming and conflicted, not knowing where to begin, this can seem scary and uncomfortable. My role is to support you to acknowledge, explore, accept, and understand them in order to achieve growth & positive change. My philosophy is that you hold your own answers internally but you are unable to access them, working collaboratively we will unlock them using your strengths and gaining empowerment.

Are you fed up of feeling like you never fit in? Maybe you're tired of masking your true self through fear of other people's judgements, criticisms or rejection? These are experiences I hear from clients so frequently. I work with people that want to find ways to live more authentically, to be more comfortable in expressing their true selves. I support clients to uncover their natural ways of being, to unmask and find ways to express their true emotions. I have a passion and a wealth of knowledge (professionally and personally) of supporting neurodiverse clients (predominantly, though not exclusively clients with autism and ADHD).

I am not a traditional Counsellor. I am a qualified Life Coach & Therapist working with Adults, Children & Veterans experiencing a range of emotional & behavioural issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, PTSD, fears & Phobias, addictions, lack of confidence, low self esteem, pain relief & bereavement. I have spent most of my working life as a HR Manager in both the Public & Private Sectors. I have seen many employees distressed because of long waits for Counselling/Therapy appointments so this led me to retrain to enable me to bridge the gap and make a difference to peoples' lives. I am fully qualified and fully insured,

Through my counselling training, work and life experiences, I have realised that every person and every problem is unique. Counselling protects your autonomy and allows you to feel that you are being listened to and valued; that your issues are real and important but significantly they can be worked through and there is a way to move on. It gives you a space which is confidential, secure and supportive whatever the issue whether it's a problem with a relationship or the devastation of grief. I see my clients as valuable human beings who are temporarily lost and confused and my job is to help them find clarity and hope.

I have been practicing as a full-time Counsellor for the past 16 years. I have worked in a variety of settings and for a wide variety of clients from young children to couples. I work as a Client Centred therapist helping clients find ways to live a more fulfilling life. Helping clients find out who they are, not who they are trying or feel they ought to be. I do a lot of work with children, students and young adults. I have also, for the last 15 years, done short term EAP work in my private practice for a local housing association.

Teen Counsellors

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
