Bereavement Counselling in Stanmore
I specialise in supporting people experiencing grief and bereavement, anxiety and depression, survivors of childhood sexual abuse and trauma, cultural and religious identity issues and working with young people aged 14 and above.
I am an integrative psychotherapist/counsellor, meaning I have been trained to use a variety of approaches to be able to work fluidly with you and whatever issue has led you to seek therapy. Part of human experience is to encounter challenges in many different guises. Sometimes these challenges upset our inner equilibrium and that can feel very difficult and overwhelming to cope with. Maybe you have been coping with something for a long time? Perhaps you are looking for support beyond family and friends? My strength is in my ability to create a warm, supportive space in which you can talk without fear of being dismissed or judged.

If you are a carer, or suffered bereavement or are the parent of a young person with special needs or an older individual looking for a space to talk do get in touch.
Life can be tough, and sometimes you can be overwhelmed by seemingly impossible problems. I specialise in helping adults dealing with the challenges of caring for others or who are bereaved. I also have a special focus on older clients many of whom have never had counselling before. It can be an enormous help when a trained, non-judgemental person, independent from those around you, really listens to you. My work helps you find a positive way through challenges, thoughts, and feelings. This helps you manage the complications of life which can lead to stress, anxiety, low self-esteem, and depression if not addressed.

Hi, I'm Denise and I work with many people who look like they’re coping. They’re capable, often the person everyone else leans on. But, internally, they’re exhausted and they can’t quite explain it to themselves. They're tired, battling insomnia, feeling stuck, anxious or stressed.
I specialise in helping busy millennials worry less and sleep better, so that they have enough energy to perform and live at their best, without guilt or overwhelm.
Working together, they start to feel more energised, confident, focused to drive their careers, and feeling in control. They wake up rested and refreshed so they can enjoy life more fully.

With so many counselling profiles to go through it can feel difficult to know which counsellor will be able to help you with your struggles. Will a male counsellor best serve me? Would there be benefits to seeing a female counsellor? What does a Psychodynamic Counsellor offer over a CBT Counsellor? If you are seeking counselling and struggling with these questions, please email me and I will be happy to offer a free 15-minute Zoom session to share some of my experience with you and help you find the right counsellor, whether that be myself or another professional.

You might be experiencing loss, depression, anxiety, situational dilemma, unhappiness, difficulty in relationships or even may be abuse of some kind.
Through talking therapy, I help, encourage and support my clients to face whatever is making them feel low or anxious. Sometimes, it may get painful to talk about certain experiences but by talking about them and getting them out there, things might start making sense and one could move towards recovery by becoming more self-aware, resilient.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
