Finding the therapist that is right for you might like a feel daunting prospect, especially at a time when you may be feeling vulnerable or uncertain, perhaps at a crossroads in your life. This is not unusual, whether this is the first time you have sought therapy or have taken therapy in the past. Sometimes we need help to overcome conflicts and blocks in our life that are confusing or difficult . I understand that you are a unique and complex individual, with many facets and aspects that make you who you are, which impact on how you experience yourself, and how you have had to adapt to face life's struggles.

If you are feeling like you need a therapist, Art Therapy (AT) is the one to consider. You do not need to be an art lover or have art skills. Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy. May be beneficial for anxious, difficult to reach people; who experienced trauma or mental health issues, have diagnosis of autism, hyperactivity, SEMH needs. AT may be good fit for people suffering from eating disorders, for people going through bereavement, separation, recovering from bullying. AT may help to feel safe again, to work through attachment trauma, to rebuild trust, resilience and self confidence in successful cases.

Hello, my name is Dr Joanna Saddington. I qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 2006. Before setting up in private practice I worked in the NHS for 18 years. I am passionate about helping adults, young people, children and families overcome their difficulties. We all know life can be challenging, so it doesn't matter whether a problem is longstanding or is more recent. What is important, is that we work together to try to solve it. I always aim to work in a way that suits the individual and their needs, as well as aiming to deliver therapy empathetically and without judgment.

Life can you hit you hard! I know this from experience. The good news is, that there is always a way back, no matter how hopeless the situation might feel at the time. The fact that you are here right now shows that you have the inner strength and desire to move forward. That in itself is huge, and the first step towards discovering (or re-discovering) the person that you truly are. Maybe you are feeling stressed? or suffer from anxiety? Are you struggling with a past traumatic experience? or the loss of a loved one? You could be stuck in a rut and not know why? Whatever it may be, remember that it does not have to be permanent.

Hi, perhaps you may be living with trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, thoughts of suicide, or mood disorders. You might feel weighed down by past experiences, stuck in patterns you don’t fully understand, and unsure how to move forward. You want relief from persistent emotional pain and a greater sense of steadiness within yourself. Your goal is to feel safe in your own mind and body, to understand your story with compassion, and to build a life guided by choice rather than shaped by past wounds. While I have a personal mission to support male mental health, especially those who feel the pressures of the online world, I welcome all.

I draw on Gestalt, CBT, and Psychodynamic therapy as different ways of listening to your inner world.
You may be arriving here with hope, uncertainty, or apprehension — all of which are welcome. My role is to offer a calm, supportive space where you can explore your inner world at a pace that feels right for you. Through open‑ended exploration, we can look at the patterns and beliefs that influence how you relate to yourself and others, supporting you toward greater self‑acceptance and a more grounded way of living. If you’re seeking something more focused, I also offer time‑limited, goal‑oriented therapy to help you strengthen your coping strategies and find clarity around a specific challenge.

My practice is, in the main, informed by three interconnected modalities: the Person-Centred approach, Psychodynamic theory and Attachment theory.
I work with adults and Young People aged between 18 to 25. My counselling practice welcomes anyone. You don't need to have specific life experiences or fit any criteria - I will welcome you for who you are. Whilst there can be specific life events that bring someone to counselling (for example a bereavement or job loss) it is more often a combination of life events that prompts people to seek assistance. Every person’s journey is unique and so my aim is to co-create with you an accepting and supportive therapeutic relationship as a base from which we can explore those aspects of your life which are most meaningful to you

Psychodynamic Counsellors
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
