Sessions are 50 minutes and can vary between 8 up to 20 sessions depending on the issue.

I get it. I've been there. You seem confident, ambitious and are always there for others. People think you lead a great life but it doesn’t always feel that way. You got through childhood and teenage years and have lots to be grateful for. Despite all of your effort and achievement in life, something doesn't feel quite right. An anxious, nagging feeling sits in your mind and body and makes you uncomfortable in your own skin. You’ve ignored it and carried on but you have many questions. It’s frustrating and exhausting but something has prompted you to find answers. You want to be more relaxed within yourself and feel good enough.

I have extensive experience and knowledge across the lifespan but primarily work with children, adolescents, parents and families.
Sometimes clients have found gaining a new perspective on their situation is enough to instigate change to their lives and other people prefer to work slowly on specific areas. Together we can discuss what you want to change about your situation and create with some achievable goals. I also provide diagnostic assessments for ADHD and Autism.

I work mostly with adolescents, young people and adults and offer a flexible approach, drawing on a range of evidence-based interventions to try and find to the right avenue of support for your needs and goals. Alongside my private practice I lecture at the Anna Freud Centre providing training and development for future therapists.

Are you struggling with a recent life transition such as becoming a parent, retirement or separating from a partner?
Therapy is a collaborative process. In your initial sessions we will talk about your reasons for coming to therapy to understand and make sense of the difficulties you’re experiencing. We will discuss your goals and what you would like to gain from our sessions. We will then work together to make changes to help you feel better and get the most out of life.

Are you upset and overwhelmed by relationships, work situations, family issues? That sense of panic and over thinking where your body feels stressed & the anxiety rockets? Did something happen that you have not shared with anyone, or feel nobody ‘gets it’? Has it felt too big & yet needs sorting and resolving? It’s understandable to feel frustrated, anxious or angry. Dealing with those feelings while maintaining a family, job & ‘a busy life’ can feel like hard work. “There needs to be more to life” & “It needs to be better than this “ are often said. To feel free from the past, to build a confidence in yourself.

Taking the step to ask for help is often the hardest thing we do. I think as adults we feel as if we "should be able to cope" or "others have it harder" and that in some way needing help or someone to talk to in difficult times is showing a weakness. We invest time and money in keeping our bodies in shape and while that is the vehicle that gets us through our life we need to care for our other parts too. Our emotions and our relationships constantly need recognition and yet we only seek help when we reach a crisis point. So whether you are at a crisis point or struggling with anxiety, depression or a bereavement I am here to help.

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
