My integrative, holistic approach means I am informed by a number of theories that I bring to our collaborative relationship.
At times life can become too much, you may be struggling and feeling stuck, not knowing which way to turn. You may chose to explore relationships, patterns of behaviour and influences from the past or present. Choices made due to abuse, trauma or any other issues may be holding you back from your true potential. Either way, we can work towards seeking greater understanding of your unique problems in a non-judgemental curious way.

I believe all couples and individuals will face challenges in their relationships and seeking help from a professional can be transformational. I have over 20 years experience of being a psychotherapist, and therefore working with me you have the chance of gaining insight into patterns of communication that are not working and poisoning your relationship. Move from resentment to understanding; Identify and articulate your needs and wants; find out how to bring back intimacy and loving feelings; A consultation with me with help you think more clearly about the issues you are struggling with and whether you want to work with me.

I believe that a positive and trusting relationship between the counsellor and client is paramount to therapeutic change, and so I offer an initial consultation to see if I am the right fit for you before we commence with therapy.
I am a qualified, integrative counsellor with experience of working with both adults and young people. I also work with organizations and EAP schemes, and happily accept new enquiries from these. Experiencing difficulties in life, while this may be inevitable, can be incredibly painful and isolating. My aim within my practice is to foster a safe, non-judgmental, and empathic environment, where you can freely explore your concerns and worries. Taking that first step in counselling and finding the right therapist can be a daunting prospect, so I will endeavour to make sure that you feel as comfortable as possible.

I understand that it can take time to build trust with a therapist and that the relationship is going to be key to change.
I’m a clinical psychologist offering private therapy alongside my role as a senior psychologist in the NHS. I draw on personal and professional experience to offer guidance within a warm, non-judgemental space. I like to work together with my client, exploring their needs and preferences and then offering ideas informed by a range of psychological models. The models I draw on most are Schema Therapy and third-wave CBT therapies such as ACT and CFT. Often our work involves uncovering and strengthening resources that people already have or getting in touch with lost values.

Couples Counselling

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
