A warm welcome. It is my hope to be a compassionate companion offering you a safe and confidential space where you can be truly heard; where, together, we can gently explore the issues that have brought you here. Maybe you are coping with a bereavement or are having relationship difficulties. Maybe you are struggling with anxiety or depression. Maybe you would like to try and make some sense of an upsetting or traumatic experience. Maybe you can’t quite put your finger on it, but something just doesn’t feel right; you feel a little lost or stuck. Whatever has led you here, therapy can help you make positive changes and live well.

Choosing a therapist can be a stressful process, and it's difficult to decide which kind of therapy to try. Many people find it helpful to work with a therapist who has trained in more than one therapy, who can switch to a different therapy when needed, and who can tailor sessions according to your needs. My 16 years experience in supporting neurodivergent clients (with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia or other difficulties) led me to further training in 2021 in autism, and specialised CBT and ACT for ADHD and emotional regulation problems.

I can help you to relax and improve your sleep, helping you to draw on your own innate resources and regain your independence.
I have always been aware of, and interested in, the relationship between emotional and physical well-being. It is now widely acknowledged that the state of our mind and emotions impacts on our physical being, with our bodies expressing emotional distress as some form of ill health or disease. It is not uncommon for unwanted behaviours like smoking, drinking or eating to excess, or other forms of compulsive and addictive behaviours, to become problematic when emotional issues and psychological trauma are not addressed effectively and our needs are not met in balance.

I specialise in treating insomnia and chronic sleep problems, having received training from the University of Oxford in the "gold standard" of insomnia treatment, CBTi.
My approach is one of compassion, curiosity and warmth. I believe in a collaborative approach to therapy; you are the expert in your experience, while I have knowledge and skills to help you understand why you think, feel and act the way you do. Together we can explore and formulate your difficulties, so that you can become clearer on what might be keeping you “stuck” in unhelpful patterns and make changes in order to live a happier, more fulfilling life.

I help strong, capable, and dependable individuals - the ones everyone relies on - who carry their own needs and everyone else’s on their shoulders. From the outside they appear resilient and in control, but inside they are often exhausted. I offer a space where they no longer have to “handle it” alone.

You may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or struggling with thoughts and emotions that are difficult to manage on your own. Many people seek therapy when anxiety, stress, or low mood begin to feel too heavy to carry alone. For many men, this can be particularly challenging. Messages such as “man up” or “men don’t cry” can make it harder to open up or ask for support. As a man who has experienced anxiety and depression myself, I understand how difficult this can be. I offer a safe, supportive space where you can talk openly, better understand what you are going through, and begin to move forward.

Sleep or Insomnia Counsellors
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
