It could be that you’ve become stuck worrying about the future, or you’ve got some big stuff in your head that’s getting in the way of moving forwards and it’s time to do something with it so that you can move on. Maybe there is fear and anxiety of making change, or you feel stressed and sad? Or maybe there is some unavoidable unhappiness in that is in the background of your life?

Whatever it is you are suffering with: trauma, abuse, bereavement, climate distress, anxiety or depression, you do not have to suffer alone. Maybe you are neurodiverse and feel misunderstood or burnt out from masking. Therapy offers an opportunity to explore areas of your life that it can be difficult to share with others. We can think together about what gets in the way of your ability to thrive, express yourself, find satisfying relationships or find meaning and purpose in life and what steps might be taken in order to move forward.

I'm an integrative therapist, drawing on different approaches depending on what's most helpful for you - Person-Centred (a supportive space where you're heard and trusted to move at your own pace), Psychodynamic (patterns from your past), and CBT (how thoughts shape behaviour).
Hi, I'm Jess. I'm a friendly and down-to-earth therapist with extensive experience working in an NHS GP practice. Whether you’re swamped by a sense of hopelessness, exhausted from constant rumination, or struggling to find anything you like about yourself, I can help. I have experience working with relationship issues, depression, anxiety, and those deep dives into past experiences that can still affect you today.

I aim to build a strong therapeutic relationship where you feel comfortable and empowered to grow in your desired direction. I work integratively and collaboratively, drawing on differing therapeutic disciplines depending on your individual needs. My room is easy to reach from the town centre or M62 and has off-street parking. Online and telephone sessions are also available.

I use techniques from Person-Centred, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Systemic and Psychodynamic therapy, and Life Coaching.
Are you struggling with a very personal or relationship issue and feel you cannot talk to anyone about it? Do you feel no-one understands your emotions and behaviours? Are you feeling frustrated and unheard? Common themes are grief and loss, unrealistic expectations, assumptions, and inability to find compromise in conflict. Differing values and beliefs, especially those which each of you hold dear and hold onto because not doing so feels like you are "losing" in some way can lead to a mis-perception of incompatibility.

My therapeutic approach integrates Person Centred Approach, CBT, Psychodynamic Approach and Mindfulness.
Do you sometimes feel invisible or like an outsider, as if you don't belong? Does life feel like an uphill battle most of the time? Do you feel exhausted, desperate or overwhelmed? Our upbringing, cultural background or significant life events can affect the way we view ourselves and how we respond to our world. Sometimes we can become overwhelmed by our own self limiting beliefs and destructive patterns. Counselling provides a safe space for you to be heard and be accepted. This is a therapeutic relationship where you are supported to understand yourself and empowers you to choose the path which will help you to flourish.

I’m a Counselling Psychologist offering a psychodynamic and relationally informed approach to psychotherapy.
You may be feeling stuck, anxious or like something just isn’t quite right. Perhaps you’ve noticed unhelpful patterns in relationships, or you’re living with the impact of complex trauma or early childhood experiences. My approach creates a safe and structured space where these issues can emerge and be explored together, with compassion and without judgment.

I draw from an extensive range: CBT, DBT, Mindfulness-Based therapies, Psychodynamic therapy, Compassion focused therapies, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, and a range of Psych-Educational tools.
When you choose to work with me, you will experience me as an invested and dedicated psychotherapist who is committed to supporting you. I don't offer a "one size fits all" approach. Instead, I see you for the unique individual that you are and carefully tailor my approach to fit uniquely with your needs. Although I work with a wide range of therapeutic issues, my main specialism is Neurodivergence. As neurodivergent individuals, we are constantly navigating a world where all the rules and structures have been established by neurotypicals. This can make everyday life exhausting. I look forward to working with you

These models include; person-centred, psychodynamic and attachment.
I mainly work with people who are going through: • relationship difficulties • burn out • conflict avoidance • low self-worth • loneliness • low mood • depression • trying to conceive • chronic illness and • anxiety. I am drawn towards approaches where the focus is on exploring your feelings in response to daily life, and the underlying causes of these feelings. Often once we give ourselves the space to explore our inner-world we are able to face the same challenges with renewed strength.

I qualified as a psychodynamic psychotherapist 8 years ago and have a core training as a mental health nurse.
I offer both short term (dynamic interpersonal therapy) and long-term psychotherapy. These therapies are designed to help a person understand the underlying cause of their difficulties by having their story heard, interpreted and understood. I use EMDR as an additional tool to help a client process and recover from traumatic experiences.

Psychodynamic Counsellors

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
