Choosing to start counselling and therapy is an empowering decision. Whether you’re grappling with a specific challenge, feeling anxious or down, making pivotal life choices, or simply seeking a space to understand yourself better and gain practical tools for daily life, I’m here to support you. I truly believe that as hard as it can be, talking about what you are facing can take the power out of some of the feelings and thoughts that can make you feel stuck or isolated.

It could be that you’ve become stuck worrying about the future, or you’ve got some big stuff in your head that’s getting in the way of moving forwards and it’s time to do something with it so that you can move on. Maybe there is fear and anxiety of making change, or you feel stressed and sad? Or maybe there is some unavoidable unhappiness in that is in the background of your life?

I also work with parents and carers, providing a space to think about the complicated and demanding task of parenting a young person struggling with relationships and mental health.
Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy is a talking therapy that supports children and young people to talk and think about themselves within the context of a reliable therapeutic relationship. As a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist I recognise that when children and young people are experiencing difficulties with their mental health and emotional wellbeing they can be helped by gaining a deeper understanding of what lies underneath their difficulties.

I help clients explore how past family dynamics shape their current relationships and parenting.
You’ve spent years putting everyone else first — partner, kids, family — and somewhere along the way, you lost sight of who you are. You avoid conflict, second-guess yourself, and feel stuck in patterns you promised you’d never repeat. You want to break the cycle, stop people-pleasing, and reconnect with the version of you that feels confident, clear, and unapologetically authentic. You’re done surviving — you’re ready to live life on your own terms, not the ones written for you long ago.

I can provide specialist treatment to children and their families where they may be behavioural issues that are affecting their relationships. I can help to understand the root cause of behaviour and to encourage heathier ways to communicate needs. I can help strengthen parent-child and parenting relationships by sharing my in depth knowledge and insight into behavioural and relational needs. I have worked with many clients over the last 14 years, in addition to couples I am also very experienced at working with bereavement, life as a carer, parenting, and relationships in general.
I am an experienced Couples Counsellor and have helped many couples to get their relationship back on track. Couples I see are often struggling with a sense of 'Where has our love gone?' Feeling desperately disconnected from one another they have lost the ability to communicate without falling into old familiar patterns and arguments. Together we will work at looking at the cycle you get caught in and how to recognise this so you can stop it. We will find new ways of communicating so you can hear each other and respond differently. This will help strengthen bonds and connection so you can begin to enjoy life together again.

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
