People often come to therapy unsure of what their goals are, knowing that things aren’t right and that life could be better if only those things were different. Whether you’re looking for therapy as an individual or as a couple - I work with both - I believe we all have the potential to change and grow, and that sometimes what is needed to start the process is a different perspective from someone with a fresh pair of eyes and ears.

As a humanistic counsellor I believe that therapy is about self exploration, which can help when you are struggling with your current life, perhaps feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stressed or depressed. I aim to create a relationship with you in which you can feel safe to be fully transparent and talk about difficult or painful experiences, thoughts or feelings. I hope that through a reflective partnership, I can help you become more self aware but with no judgement.

I can help with a range of issues, such as anxiety, depression, self-esteem, grief and loss, abuse, and trauma.
I understand that therapy can feel uncomfortable for some people, so I try to create a space that feels relaxed and welcoming instead of clinical. Whether we talk on the phone or online, with or without video, my main goal is to help you feel safe, comfortable, and free from judgment.

I’m a BABCP-accredited CBT practitioner and a member of the EMDR Association. I have over 15 years’ experience in the NHS and academic settings. Over the years, I’ve found that no single therapy works for everyone, so I draw on a range of approaches—including Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and EMDR—to find what works best for you. At the end of the day, what matters most to me is creating a safe, understanding space where you feel heard. We’ll work together, at your pace, to explore your challenges and move towards the changes you’d like to see in your life.

Perhaps you’re coping with loss, guilt, relationship difficulties, life changes, or worries about the future.
My approach is psychodynamic, which means we may explore how past experiences and relationships could be influencing how you feel and relate to yourself and others today. By developing greater understanding and awareness, it can become easier to make sense of your experiences and move forward in a way that feels right for you.

I don't believe I have an ideal client. I just think anyone that has the courage to come to therapy and face up to the challenges they are facing is the kind of client I want to work with.

I have extensive experience of managing bereavement, domestic abuse issues, anxiety and the symptoms of PTSD.
Do you feel overwhelmed by your thoughts & feelings? Are you feeling anxious? Are you suffering from stress and feel “burnt out”? Do you wonder how to manage those constant thought patterns which go round & round in your head, stopping you from being able to think clearly? What would it feel like to offload and release that pressure without feeling judged or being offered well-meaning advice that just isn’t right for you? Imagine that sense of building upon your self-esteem as you learn to trust your gut feeling and know instinctively what is right for you to enable that change to happen?

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
