As a humanistic counsellor I believe that therapy is about self exploration, which can help when you are struggling with your current life, perhaps feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stressed or depressed. I aim to create a relationship with you in which you can feel safe to be fully transparent and talk about difficult or painful experiences, thoughts or feelings. I hope that through a reflective partnership, I can help you become more self aware but with no judgement.

I understand that therapy can feel uncomfortable for some people, so I try to create a space that feels relaxed and welcoming instead of clinical. Whether we talk on the phone or online, with or without video, my main goal is to help you feel safe, comfortable, and free from judgment.

I'm a HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist and EMDR Association UK member with over 20 years' experience in NHS mental health services. My own experiences of trauma, burnout, becoming a full-time parent carer, and losing three family members to suicide transformed how I understand recovery. I now help people process trauma, reconnect with their nervous system, and rebuild a life that's meaningful and values-led. Therapy is a compassionate space to make sense of your experiences and feel more like yourself again.

I’m a BABCP-accredited CBT practitioner and a member of the EMDR Association. I have over 15 years’ experience in the NHS and academic settings. Over the years, I’ve found that no single therapy works for everyone, so I draw on a range of approaches—including Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and EMDR—to find what works best for you.
At the end of the day, what matters most to me is creating a safe, understanding space where you feel heard. We’ll work together, at your pace, to explore your challenges and move towards the changes you’d like to see in your life.

My approach to therapy involves working with you to help you live a more fulfilled life, create choice, and achieve greater freedom from distressing emotions. Therapeutic work allows for expression of emotions that may be distressing in response to life events and/or relationships past/present, in a supportive environment. I work in a way that is relational, considering two person interaction - emotions in external relationships can be explored together with feelings in the present moment. The therapeutic process enables development of trust and safety, and connection with self and other, an essential facet of human growth,

You may have recently received a diagnosis, or perhaps you recognise traits of Autism or ADHD in yourself and would like space to explore what this means for you.
My approach is psychodynamic, which means we may explore how past experiences and relationships could be influencing how you feel and relate to yourself and others today. By developing greater understanding and awareness, it can become easier to make sense of your experiences and move forward in a way that feels right for you.

Many of my clients are A(u)DHD/ autistic, and you might also be looking for therapy partly because you're a mixed neurotype couple, and want support navigating the way that your neurotypes impact your relationship.
Conflicts often follow a familiar, repetitive pattern even though the content may change. In relationship therapy, we can identify the strategies that you're using in conflict, the needs you hope those strategies will meet, the ways in which those strategies might be counterproductive, and how you can do things differently.
I offer Internal Family Systems informed therapy for partners and other pairs including siblings, friends, and family members. I welcome people in non-normative relationships such as queerplatonic relationships.

Your past is something you desperately want to forget. You have done your utmost to push it all out of your mind and just get on with your life. But no matter how hard you try, those awful thoughts and feelings follow you wherever you go, catching you out when you least expect it. You feel trapped, powerless to change any of this. You feel out of control, unable to manage the stress in your body. And every time those images pop into your mind, you feel ashamed and guilty. There is this voice inside you telling you you should have done something more, something else. Then it would have all been different.

Can talking to someone help?
At times we may all struggle with stresses, strains, challenges, difficulties, loss and change. In a fast changing and sometimes confusing world many of us may struggle to feel connected; with ourselves, with others and within society and during these times it can be helpful to talk about our thoughts, our feelings and our emotions.

What is the most effective treatment for autism?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.
How does ABA work?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.
How does treatment for autism work?
Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.
How long does therapy for autism take?
Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
