Hi, my name is Andy and I am a MBACP trauma focussed bereavement counsellor. I am a clinical Hypnotherapist and I am trained to use REWIND, a therapeutic technique used to help overcome trauma and PTSD. I have a few years-experience working with grief and sudden loss. With sudden loss, there can be symptoms of trauma and PTSD. I help clients better understand their grief and I offer clients the space to grieve. I also work with the traumatic aspect of loss and help clients to understand their trauma and how their trauma can be overcome.

There are times in our lives when we feel stressed, anxious or unhappy. Times when we are just struggling to cope with our circumstances or we have been knocked off balance by a serious life event or trauma. Times of loss and grief, times when our relationships break down and times when our life just feels empty and lacking in purpose. During these times we may feel overwhelmed, lost and confused and we may not know what to do. Whatever it is that you are struggling with right now, your mental health is important and talking with an experienced counsellor or psychotherapist can help.

I am here to support your healing process. Looking for a therapist is a courageous first step. I have found that common themes clients bring to therapy include: Feelings of shame and a lack of worthiness; being very self-critical; Feeling rejected, hurt, and alone; Stuck in relationships that are not fulfilling; Feeling that your life lacks purpose; Traumatic experiences that feel like they define you. Do any of these sound familiar? Would it help to have a space to work through these issues, to let go, and to feel greater freedom in your life? If any of these issues resonate with you then we can work together to make a difference.

I want to be upfront with you: therapy isn’t always easy, and it’s not always comfortable. We might dive into some difficult, personal issues that feel painful or unresolved. This can be unsettling at times, but that’s often where the real transformation happens. It’s in those moments of discomfort, when we face what’s tough to confront, that we start to break through old barriers and make space for new possibilities. In doing so, you can begin to feel more in control of your story, your choices, and your growth. This work may be challenging, but it’s also an opportunity to reclaim your voice and discover oneself.

You may be a high-achieving midlife professional who looks confident and successful on the outside but feels very different on the inside. Anxiety, perfectionism, or burnout may have left you exhausted, unable to switch off, and doubting whether you’re “enough.” You might long to feel calmer, more in control of your emotions, and less driven by self-criticism. Perhaps you want clearer boundaries, a healthier balance, or simply to enjoy life again.

Male Counsellors

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
