As a Clinical Psychologist I am passionate about working with people to address their emotional and mental health difficulties and to achieve their treatment goals. I have a particular interest in working with addictions, trauma, and anxiety disorders and as such these are my main areas of expertise. In addition to working privately, I also worked in an NHS Addictions Service until recently, predominantly with alcohol and illicit drugs, and as a result much of my work was with people with complex mental health needs.

My aim is to explore together the issues you bring in a safe non-judgemental environment and support you to find a way forward. Many of us have issues in our lives that make us feel ‘stuck’ and stop us living the lives we want to live. This can be related to situations that have occurred recently or more long-standing issues going back to childhood. Our usual coping mechanisms may not be enough and the people we have relied on in the past for support may not be able to help with our current issues.

When we are experiencing difficulties and our usual means of coping aren’t enough, it can be difficult to know where or who to turn to. Therapy can provide a non-judgemental and expectation free space to reflect on what is going on for us, what changes we might want to make and how we might go about this.

Children and young people often find it difficult to talk about feelings. Some children will act out these feelings, which can lead to some behaviours that are difficult to understand. Others might withdraw when faced with difficult feelings and become quiet and isolated. Adolescence can be a difficult time, full of anxiety, uncertainty and changes. Together, we will try to understand these feelings and what might be going on. Having an understanding of these feelings and knowing that having these feelings, good or bad, is ok and can be managed will help them feel more in control of their feelings and behaviour.

Choosing to see a counsellor isn't easy. I know. There's still a lot of stigma attached to the decision. But, counselling can be a wonderful tool. It can help you make sense of difficult and puzzling circumstances. Anxiety, stress, depression, ADHD, anger, low self-esteem and trauma seemingly appear from nowhere. They might be recent or may have been around a while. And then there's family issues and couples counselling. I can help you get to the cause and get some relief. I'm person-centred and I’m authentic. I'm non-judgemental. I’m BACP registered and believe in your inherent potential. I'll help you be your personal best.

Hello, my name is Mary and I’m a clinical psychologist. Within my therapeutic practice, and in all areas of my life, I value compassion, understanding and openness. I believe that positive change can be brought about by understanding what keeps us stuck. This then enables us to more freely choose how to live a meaningful life that is guided by our values. I offer a range of therapeutic approaches to suit the needs identified in the initial assessment.

Life can be really tough, and sometimes we need a bit of support and guidance to help us navigate our way through. I take a warm, empathic and collaborative approach to therapy, offering a non judgmental space to explore whatever is troubling you. As an integrative counsellor, I am trained in the person-centred approach, psychodynamic therapy and CBT and also draw on attachment theory and traumatology. This means we can tailor therapy to your particular needs and preferred way of working.
