I can provide general support or give you the opportunity to look at specific concerns such as loss or
relationship
issues.
Hello and welcome. Perhaps you are going through a difficult time at the moment. Each of us can go through times when we find it difficult to cope. We can feel stressed, and alone. Exploring your thoughts and feelings in a confidential space where you won’t feel judged can be a step towards clarity and change. You may feel anxious, depressed or suffer from low self-esteem. I believe each person can help themselves find the way forward towards achieving their full potential and leading happier lives. I can help you to understand yourself and to recognise changes that you can make to ease discomfort that you may be experiencing.

We need therapy at certain stages in our life to help us process feelings and thoughts - it can provide a way to manage difficult emotions and talk about ourselves in a confidential space away from loved ones and friends. My background is in Person-Centred and Existential Counselling, and I’ve been helping people since 2004. Over the years, I’ve incorporated various theories and practices into my approach, allowing me to offer a personalised, humanistic therapeutic experience. I work with individuals and
couples
online using Teams or Zoom and have a room in Central Southampton for face to face work.

Paramount to all these I believe that developing a trusting
relationship
while being aware of what happens between us is core to effective therapy.
Seeking therapy takes courage and finding the right therapist can be a daunting task. Perhaps you would like to make changes to your life but are unsure of where to begin? We can work together to help identify patterns and themes of your view of the world and yourself in it. We can think about how past experiences may have impacted on your ability to cope and function. With acquiring greater insight, awareness and meaning, we can work towards breaking destructive patterns and gain resources which will help you cope with difficulties and make profound changes to your life and relationships.

Do you believe you are doing the best you can but unfortunately often end up experiencing repetitive cycles of hurt and misunderstanding? When
couples
enter my counselling room, they are often filled with pain and despair. They look to me, to address their conflicts, help them recover from distress and repair their relationships.

I offer confidential, face to face psychotherapy to individuals (adults),
couples
and groups covering a wide range of issues, both long and short term. I work with a person-centred approach developed by Carl Rogers. Person-centred counselling is
relationship
based and its core principles are authenticity, acceptance and empathy. It is non-directive in the sense that you, as the client, decide what you want to discuss, and I will move at your own pace. You are the expert in what feels the most troubling and I, as your therapist, provide an emphatic, accepting, genuine space for you to be fully heard

Not accepting new clients
It can be difficult choosing a therapist and the client/counsellor
relationship
is an important part of the counselling process.
Life can sometimes feel confusing, you may feel overwhelmed or stuck. Perhaps, you have recently experienced change or loss that impacted you in an unexpected way. Life events such as these can be difficult to make sense of and leave you feeling unsure or unsettled. Counselling offers a unique opportunity to explore concerns, challenges, or anxieties. I aim to provide a non-judgemental space in which you feel safe to express your thoughts and feelings and to work with you to explore whatever arises. Having someone to talk with in confidence can help identify obstacles, facilitate growth and a new awareness of yourself in the world.

Hello there and welcome. Sometimes life can be overwhelming for all sorts of reasons and we may need a little help to try and work our way through it. Counselling can give us the help we need, by offering a safe place to sit with someone who is there to help you through those tough times. I understand that the decision to have counselling can perhaps be a difficult one, but I believe that together we can ease those fears and anxieties. Then, as we begin to develop a therapeutic and healing
relationship
, you will hopefully begin to feel more able to share all that is on your mind.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
