Using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Solution-Focused techniques, I aim to help clients forge their own path and create fulfilling lives for themselves. You may want to challenge anxious beliefs and assumptions, create and maintain new habits, modify self-constructs, learn how to better regulate emotions, or improve relationship skills. By understanding yourself in terms of thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, you can decide what change is necessary, creating your own action plan to thrive instead of just survive.

The best gift I can offer you is a willingness to listen deeply and pay careful attention to your concerns. Counselling can sometimes feel like trying to unravel a tangled ball of wool: you’re not sure where the end is, and have no clue how to begin. Often you don’t know how you got here, or where you’re going. But you just feel something needs to change. I will sit with you in the chaos and uncertainty believing that, whilst I may be an expert in some things, you are the expert in You. I will endeavour to see the world as you see it – through your eyes - so that together we can start to make sense of the things that trouble you.

If you are reading this well done for taking the first step. You may want to learn more about me and more about yourself. Perhaps at this moment there are some areas of your life that aren’t manageable on your own. In deciding to reach out it's most important that it shows you are aware that things could be better. I would very much welcome the opportunity to be by your side as you realise whatever ‘better’ might be for you!

So I have a young person aged 15. There is evidence of self harm and 2 overdoses -neither life threatening but a call for ' I need help and to be listened to'. I need to look at where these issues are coming from, is there intent to commit suicide, give that young person tools and strategies for doing something differently when there is a possibility for further self harm. They want an alternative so we look at triggers, noticing what is happening inside their body, what their negative automatic thoughts are, We set SMART goals, from something very small -they need to be able to achieve the goals, and then increase these slowly.

Everybody’s experiences and responses toward the unpredictability of life, differ greatly. Having a confidential space, that’s just yours, where you can focus on yourself, your life experiences, or your thoughts and feelings, can be incredibly transformative, provide a sense of relief, clarity, renewed optimism and hopefulness. I’m far from a ‘detached analytical cold figure’ in the room, but a person of warmth, an ‘old soul’ and ‘down to earth attitude’, whom respects individual uniqueness, circumstances and paths in life. I work with you to find the answers/solutions that you are looking for; not to analyse, or dictate to you.

Client's will be able to understand the historical and systemic influences to their problems and to find ways to create change both for themselves and others that they associate with. Many of my client's also have unresolved trauma that influences their day to day interactions, relationships, psychological state and/or physical health. They would hope to be able to make sense of both their mood and beliefs but to also be able to find ways to reprocess or clear any related trauma, make sense of associated anxiety, stress, behaviours and negative beliefs, to find ways to manage, think and behave differently and find new strengths.

I provide therapeutic space for you to reflect, think about and explore difficulties without judgement. Sometimes we can have an idea about what we are struggling with, sometimes we are less sure. Accessing therapy can help us to understand ourselves and give meaning to that which leaves us feeling stuck. Sometimes things that are happening in the here and now can bring up feelings that we have experienced in the past that we may or may not be aware of. This may create discomfort, pain, distress, anxiety, depression and overwhelm. People often describe feeling empty, in darkness, alone, lacking energy and feeling frightened.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
