Internal Family Systems (IFS) Counselling in Somerton
I work with a wide range of diverse needs and people, but particularly those struggling with anxiety, self-doubt, poor self-esteem and the feeling that they are just not good enough.
Many of the people I work with find themselves feeling constantly anxious - worrying about what other people think of them, trying to keep everyone happy or believing they are flawed and not good enough. They are often exhausted and frustrated that they can't find a way to break free from this.

Many of the men I work with have spent years pushing things down, coping alone, or feeling they should just “get on with it” — until life becomes too heavy to carry quietly.
I work specifically with men and understand that starting therapy can feel unfamiliar, uncomfortable, or difficult to talk about. I offer a supportive, non-judgemental space where you can speak openly and be properly heard.
Before becoming a therapist, I spent over 25 years working in the construction industry, with some of that time spent running my own business. I understand the pressures many men carry — the expectation to cope and keep going.

I offer warm, thoughtful therapy grounded in Internal Family Systems ( IFS).
Life is full of thresholds, and stepping over them can bring more questions than answers. You may be navigating the loss of a loved one or a relationship, a midlife shift such as perimenopause or a lack of direction that’s hard to name. Perhaps something within you is changing but the people around you haven’t caught up. You may be noticing grief, anger, anxiety or simply a sense that something needs attention. This may include exploring your neurodivergent identity or the layered griefs of being childless not by choice. Therapy offers a steady space to explore what is happening within you and begin to find your way forward.

Even when you’re thoughtful and self-aware, certain patterns can continue to shape your relationships in ways that don’t feel good. You may find yourself cycling through the same reactions, fears, or dynamics, leading to conflict, distance, or not feeling fully met. You might be carrying pain from childhood, navigating stress or anxiety, or facing challenges around intimacy or sexuality. You’re seeking more than insight—you want real change. Ultimately, you want relationships where you feel emotionally secure, connected, and confident.

I love working with people, getting to know you and hearing your story. I believe that we are all unique. One of the things I love most about my work is the privilege of seeing someone begin to thrive and to enjoy their life again. I love helping to find some inner calm, clarity of thought and to be practicing self compassion as part of their everyday lives. I work in a bespoke way, tailor making my approach to each person. However, that said, everyone's needs compassion and so a compassion focused therapy approach runs through all of my work. I am most definitely a human first and a psychologist second.

If you’ve found yourself here, it may be because life feels especially heavy or confusing right now. It can feel strange at first to talk to someone you don’t know. But sometimes that’s exactly what makes it easier. Because I’m not part of your family or social circle, you don’t have to protect me, worry about being judged, or hold anything back. In our first session, we’ll simply talk about what’s on your mind and what you’d like from counselling. There’s no pressure, and it’s normal for us both to feel a little nervous when meeting someone new. You can be honest—and I’ll be here to listen, with no agenda except supporting you.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Counsellors
What is Internal Family Systems therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.
How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.
Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.
How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
