I specialise in Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) along side other integrative therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Mindfulness and hypnotherapy. The framework my approach is built on is REBT, yet as each of us are different, I integrate the other therapies to suit each individual. Some clients benefit more from rationalising thoughts and beliefs, while some need help getting over the past, and some need help with moving forward. I work with my clients to address issues, create and reach goals, and to help them make the most of everyday life, without the struggles.

I am accredited with the BACP and have a wide variety of therapeutic approaches to deal with many mental health problems.
Hello and welcome to my page. I recognise the courage it takes to approach a therapist and would like to help you. Over ten years of practising, therapy has shown me time and time again how people can overcome their problems successfully and live fulfilled and happy lives. In today's pressured world, mental health problems are all too common. Maybe you're struggling with depression or stress or the problem is anxiety, or trauma, or grief. Perhaps you're struggling with a habit that started off as a pleasure but turned into an addiction over lockdown. Whatever the mental health problem, talking therapy can help.

As a qualified counsellor and an older man with a broad experience of life, I will take the time to listen to you - with kindness, curiosity and compassion.
I work in a professional, friendly and straightforward way. Life isn’t always easy. Things change, or end, or go wrong. Sometimes you can feel overwhelmed, hurt or confused. Sometimes you can get stuck or just not like yourself…Sometimes you might think that you're broken. Whether you’re feeling anxious, depressed or sad; missing someone you loved; are worried by a family issue or you feel your self-esteem or your confidence is not all it could be... Whatever it is, you can talk to me in confidence.

Life always throws us difficult stuff to deal with; it wouldn’t be life without it. Sometimes we can shrug these things off, yet at other times they can have an extremely debilitating effect upon us. Sometimes things happen and we bury them, they remain hidden but still exert a force upon us and our behaviour. They can influence us in ways that we would rather they didn’t. Sometimes these things come roaring back at us, out of the blue, unbidden and unwelcome. We all pass through stages in our life where we question everything around us, our relationships, our work, our behaviour and ultimately ourselves.

For this reason, I am passionate about helping clients learn to manage their OCD successfully.
I work with clients that primarily struggle with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) symptoms and anxiety disorders. My clients experience contamination, responsibility, religious/scrupulosity, relationship, health, symmetry, and 'Pure O' OCD symptoms. I offer formal assessments, treatment proposals, and I regularly educate and support clients to learn specialist skills, tools and techniques to successfully manage their OCD. This includes learning to diffuse from and accept unwanted thoughts, resist the urge to perform compulsions, and improve self-esteem. I am experienced working with mild, moderate, or severe OCD.

Are you struggling with anxiety or low mood, relationships with others, or have you experienced traumatic events in childhood or as an adult which are impacting you now? Have you experienced therapy where you felt your needs were not adequately met or you were being "fitted into a box? Did therapy just focus on the here and now? CBT can be a very successful therapy but in some services it can leave people feeling like they are failing and not focusing on what they want to. I believe that the therapeutic relationship and feeling safe in therapy is essential for progress and this is at the centre of my work.

I understand that it can be particularly difficult for men to undertake counselling and consider myself able to identify and support male issues.
Worried about your relationships? Have your feeling towards your partner changed? Do you have fears about being judged? Unsure of why you keep repeating the same destructive patterns? Do you feel you are not good enough? Feel like it is going end anyway/They will leave me?

I am also very interested in working with adult families and men either individually or with their families.
I am a highly experienced Family and Systemic Psychotherapist who works with families, couples and individuals. Currently I am working on-line and also face to face in the Taunton area of Somerset. I specialise in both child-related issues such as depression, anxiety, autism, ADHD and also adult families where there are relationship issues, unresolved difficulties from the past or perhaps mental health difficulties. My work with couples is often when there is a desire to improve the relationship and rediscover some of the joy that may have been lost. I also enjoy working with children and adults individually.

My ideal client is one of complexity; I plan on to enrol onto a Doctorate becoming a counselling psychologist. I am a qualified counsellor and my knowledge base started 15 years ago when I fell ill. I have had an eventful life, including heart problems, strokes and many other issues. Through therapies, self help and determination I am happy with my life and I would love to share my knowledge. I have specialised in complex bereavement over the past 6 years seeing clients face to face and supporting them through the hard times. There is a need for more LGBT counsellors that understand and help.

Whether you have recently experienced a crisis in life, or are dealing with a more prolonged sense of disillusionment, I offer a compassionate space for you to explore whatever issue brings you to therapy. Beginning to talk about yourself and what you are dealing with may feel new or even unnerving, so I am always mindful to work with you at your own pace. In this process many different issues may come up for you, and through talking together we have an opportunity to explore, reflect upon and understand more fully how and why you feel the way you do.

Do you play the guitar? Do you have other ways to self-soothe or manage your emotions? Books maybe, reading and writing.
I can work with you around family issues, teen problems, child behaviour, ASC issues, illness and disability. I will support, collaborate and try to make sense of what is going on. All things eventually pass - I will offer to weather the storm with you. I won’t be judging you or not taking you seriously. We will work together - and it will be work - but we will also aim to have fun and be creative in our work.
