All of us have our periods of struggle. Life has a habit of throwing things at us - stress, loss, bereavement, anxiety, relationship troubles - that can throw us off course. Relationships are tough; work and family too. But you don't have to manage it all on your own. Talking to me about your anxiety, depression, anger, stress, addictions or loss can help plot a path through life's difficult times and rediscover yourself. Working together in a calm, focused way, we can understand your unique patterns and needs, find coping strategies, and look at ways to change the things we can, and accept the things we can't.

My past experience as an operational firefighter for 20years has moulded my approach to life. I offer a non-judgemental safe place for the client to explore any issues they may have. A particular area of interest for me is the effect of a difficult past on the psyche, whether childhood or later life trauma . I use an integrated method of therapy which enhances my ability to help the client make the changes they desire. I am friendly and empathic with first hand appreciation of the challenges we all face.

As a person-centred Play Therapist I accept every child as they are, meeting them at their unique developmental level. If difficult things have happened to a child, and they're feeling anxious and unhappy, then play therapy could be a gentle way to overcome this. Gradually, most children I work with start to feel more empowered, and grow in self-awareness. The therapeutic space between me and my clients, also the very young ones, is confidential and safe. Children will feel relaxed enough to play what they cannot say; over time they will process their feelings, and play their way to feeling better.

Every child experiences and make sense of the world around them in a unique way. If a child is feeling anxious, unhappy or struggling with something, play and creative arts therapy can give them a safe and accepting space to explore their feelings at their own pace. With my support alongside them, children can begin to process their emotions and gradually discover different ways of thinking and being. My aim is always to meet each child where they are — emotionally and developmentally — so that they can feel more empowered, grow in self-awareness and develop a stronger sense of security in themselves and the world around them.

You already know something needs to change, the question is, what's really keeping you where you are? Maybe the same thoughts, emotions, relationships or behaviours keep repeating, leaving you feeling stuck, disconnected or frustrated despite your best efforts. Perhaps you've reached a point where life no longer feels aligned with who you are or the person you want to become. If you're ready to stop simply managing life and start understanding what's truly driving it, you'll begin reconnecting with yourself, making choices with greater confidence, and creating a life that feels authentic, fulfilling and truly your own.

Hi, I’m Sarah. I imagine at the moment you might not be experiencing life as you'd hope to. Perhaps you feel anxious, sad, overwhelmed, stuck, lost, angry, frustrated, alone and/or are experiencing difficulties in your relationships. All these emotions are part of being human, but at times they can feel like they are taking over, causing distress and difficulties. It can help to talk, and I offer a gentle, respectful, kind and compassionate presence, keen to listen without judgement, welcoming the whole of you, at your own pace. I aim to be alongside you, working together to help you achieve the outcomes you desire from therapy.

It can be a daunting experience deciding to take the step into counselling, I aim to make the counselling space as comfortable as possible. As a therapist I provide a safe and confidential space where clients can open up and together we can explore the difficult feelings and emotions that may arise.  As an Integrative Psychotherapist I believe that not one type of therapy fits all, therefore bringing in techniques from different modalities of therapy, such as person-centred, CBT, Psychodynamic and Gestalt may provide clients with a greater therapeutic experience.

I work with young people, adults, and families who struggle with feelings of anxiety, stress, low self esteem and low mood, worthlessness, and self-doubt. Perhaps you are an obsessive overthinker, struggling with OCD, or set excessively high standards/feel exhausted, and or are self-critical. We can work on techniques to relearn a more helpful and constructive view. How you talk to yourself matters. If your voice is unkind, it undermines your self-worth. What is important when dealing with stress or self criticism is to reframe our mindset towards it, but more crucial, to recover from it so that we don’t linger in this state.

Divorce Counsellors
How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?
Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.

What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?
There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioural, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioural therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.

When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?
When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.

How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
