I have worked extensively with clients who have experienced complex trauma, attachment injuries and traumatic bereavement.
Hi, I’m Matt. I live and work in Skipton, North Yorkshire. I have worked with a diverse range of clients each with unique challenges and lived experience.
Anxiety, depression and uncertainty are often natural reactions to life events and relationship traumas that can leave us feeling ‘stuck’, isolated, deeply hurt or disillusioned. Clients who come to counselling often want circumstances, relationships, or feelings in their life to change. With support and unconditional validation of your own ‘story’, I work with you to find a way forward that respects your values and beliefs, and supports your desire for meaningful change.

Do you feel like you're going round and round with a problem - maybe with a relationship or how you see yourself? Maybe you don't know how you want things to be, or you know what you want but can't work out how to do it, or don't have the courage to follow through? Are you feeling anxious, angry, rejected, or unimportant? Whatever your issues, I can help you talk about and process them, find solutions, and feel more at ease with yourself.

As a person-centred Play Therapist I accept every child as they are, meeting them at their unique developmental level. If difficult things have happened to a child, and they're feeling anxious and unhappy, then play therapy could be a gentle way to overcome this. Gradually, most children I work with start to feel more empowered, and grow in self-awareness. The therapeutic space between me and my clients, also the very young ones, is confidential and safe. Children will feel relaxed enough to play what they cannot say; over time they will process their feelings, and play their way to feeling better.

Every child experiences and make sense of the world around them in a unique way. If a child is feeling anxious, unhappy or struggling with something, play and creative arts therapy can give them a safe and accepting space to explore their feelings at their own pace.
With my support alongside them, children can begin to process their emotions and gradually discover different ways of thinking and being.
My aim is always to meet each child where they are — emotionally and developmentally — so that they can feel more empowered, grow in self-awareness and develop a stronger sense of security in themselves and the world around them.

Therapy with warmth, humour, and a brew.
A warm drink can be comforting, but it doesn’t magically fix the overwhelm, the masking, the relationship patterns, or the weight of old wounds. What it CAN do is help us slow down, breathe, and begin to explore things together at your pace.
I work in a deeply person‑centred, trauma-informed and collaborative way, often with a cup of tea in hand; creating a space where you can show up exactly as you are.
I have completed ADHD‑Certified Clinical Services Provider (ADHD‑CCSP) Training, and I’m currently undertaking Certified Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist (ASDCS) training.

As an Art Psychotherapist, I work from a psychodynamic perspective, paying close attention to how early experiences, unconscious processes, and relational patterns shape current emotional life. I offer a consistent space to explore thoughts, feelings, and internal conflicts with depth and curiosity. Art-making provides an additional route for unconscious material to emerge and be understood. No artistic experience is needed.

Bereavement Counsellors
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
