I offer talking therapy in a confidential, safe and relaxing environment. It may be easier to talk about personal issues, in an alternative place, with someone who is not involved and is totally non-judgemental. Counselling is my passion! I believe we were born to be real...not perfect. My belief in the process, how it works and in particular how the working alliance can help you to move forward never stops.

You may be feeling in crisis, confused, or stuck. Whatever is prompting you to consider therapy, it is an opportunity to really get to know yourself and rediscover inner resources which you may have lost contact with. We all unconsciously develop ways to avoid aspects of ourselves which confound or trouble us, but eventually they can become impossible to ignore. I can offer skilled and compassionate guidance as you turn towards them. This naturally fosters new understanding and a different relationship with yourself. Whatever your hope or goal, I have learned that what is in the way, is the way, and you don’t have to travel alone.

You might be deciding to seek counselling for a variety of reasons including relationship issues, bereavement and loss, depression and anxiety, current life events or the impact of earlier childhood trauma.
It was a privilege to work with and support children, young people and their families in my career as a teacher before specialising in supporting people through counselling. People would describe me as warm, genuine and non-judgemental. Alongside reflective practice, I can offer you a confidential space to talk, a space to think, a space and a time for you.

I work with clients on a range of topics including: - Stress - Anxiety - Depression - Loss and bereavement - Relationship issues  - Low self-esteem - Suicidal thoughts  - Life goals
The nature of person-centred counselling means you are in control of what you want to talk about and how to use your sessions. I understand it's a big step to find help at difficult moments in life - it takes courage, trust and vulnerability to share your inner world with another person. My aim is to provide a space where you can discuss what’s on your mind openly without judgment and with confidentiality, empathy and acceptance. I’ve experienced how personal insight, understanding and profound change can be gained from effective counselling, and I hope I can support you on your journey of self-exploration.

Depression, anxiety, bereavement, loss, grief, relationship challenges, low mood .
Hello, My name is Karen. I am a person centred counsellor and work in an experiential way with feelings and emotions. I have found working in this way helps the facilitation to get into the depth of how you are feeling, what you are experiencing and what the root cause may be. This can help support the understanding of your feelings and how you experience them and how you move forward.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
