Bereavement, displacement, loss and trauma are as real to you as you have experienced them. Whilst the thought of counselling can be overwhelming, it is important to allow yourself the permission to literally breathe through events as you talk about them. My Integrative practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy draws from the therapeutic approaches of Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, and Cognitive Behavioural therapy (CBT). Therefore as you decide on the issues that have brought you to therapy, I will endeavour to offer a safe, confidential and co-created space to help us explore what you share, as you navigate towards wholeness.

People struggle to talk frankly about their struggles: personal, relationships and sexual. Although difficulties arising from life transitions, sex and relationships are much more prevalent than most people think, only a few people can still share their struggles with others. Therefore, psychotherapy, psychosexual and relationship therapy offer a unique and confidential space to have those conversations with me, which means you can reach out for support in these areas regardless of your background, sexual preferences and relationship experiences.

I have worked within fostering and adoption, Couple and family Counselling, Bereavement and Youth Counselling. My experience comes from having worked within a variety of family and child settings, a counselling service for young people, a hospice as a bereavement counsellor, and supporting couples in their relationships. I work with families who foster and the secondary trauma that they can also experience. Although I have been trained in the psychodynamic approach, I work using other models to best suit and help individuals explore and become aware of blocks in their lives, working towards making changes.

I believe every relationship carries a unique story, shaped by culture, family, faith, trauma, personality, and the nervous system. When couples struggle, it’s rarely because they don’t care — it’s because something in their system has become overwhelmed, unheard, or unprotected. I create a space where both partners can slow down, feel safe, and truly hear each other — not just with their ears, but with their hearts and nervous systems. My work is gentle, direct, and respectful of each person’s story. Whether you’re navigating conflict, emotional distance, communication breakdowns, cultural differences, or the impact of trauma.

Are you feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or lost? Or you might be struggling with grief, feeling anxious about the future, or stuck in patterns that feel tiring and unfulfilling. Or perhaps you are experiencing relationship difficulties that you need help to work through, or are you experiencing a chronic health issue that is affecting your life? Or are you experiencing some work related stress? Whatever issue you are facing, you do not have to navigate it alone. Therapy can provide a space for you to explore the issues, make sense of your experiences, and find a meaningful way for you to move forward.

Sometimes things in life can start to seem overwhelming; the useful strategies of the past may not be as helpful as they used to; we can find ourselves lost and unsure. This can often lead to added, despair, anxiety, and self-criticism. It can often seem hard to see a way out or to ask for help. You may need someone to listen without judgement and provide insights into understanding patterns in your life. You may also desire strategies to change your actions and the way that you think about things. The way to a fulfilling and valued life is available without a life-long commitment to therapy.

The ideal client is someone who wants help, they may not understand exactly why but know that change is needed. They may need help with relationships, problems of everyday living or traumas and crises. They may experience depression, anxiety, low self-esteem or childhood issues.

As a black, Muslim woman that has worked with clients from different backgrounds, I know what it can be like to hold visible identities and appreciate how these can be in harmony or conflict with invisible aspects of ourselves, as well as contribute to feelings of difference.
Maybe you feel as though you are negotiating between intersecting parts of yourself such as your mind, body, heart and soul and you’re finding it difficult to find a balance that feels sincere to you. Perhaps this back and forth is affecting how you behave with your family, friends or partner and you’re finding it difficult to cope. You want to live a life where you can integrate more aspects of yourself and feel more whole, to hear and trust yourself, without fear of feeling shame, feeling seen or even feeling truly known by those who matter most to you.

On the outside it looks like everything's fine. You appear confident in work, people seek your advice, you've been considered a high achiever for most of your life. But on the inside, you feel exhausted and disconnected. It's hard for you to switch off, you constantly feel guilty for resting, you hate asking for help. You're irritable, losing sleep and although you're functioning everyday, you're surviving more than you are thriving. It feels like no matter what you do, it's never good enough. Your inner critic says to just get on with it, other people have it worse. But, you're ready for change, you just don't know where to start.

People often come to me when they are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected. They may be facing difficulties in their relationships, going through major life changes, struggling with complex emotional pain, looking to better understand themselves and experience greater stability and emotional well-being in their life.

Black British Counsellors
As a Black British, why might I wish to see a therapist who is Black British?
Black British clients may seek out Black British therapists for several reasons, foremost being a sense of cultural understanding and the possibility of shared experiences. Cultural sensitivity and context on the part of the therapist may make it easier to form a therapeutic alliance and to focus on the work of therapy without the need to explain or educate a therapist on cultural matters. It may also be empowering to work with a therapist who shares one’s racial or ethnic background. It is important to note that a therapist who demonstrates cultural sensitivity can be highly effective even if they do not share a client’s background or race.

Can clients benefit from working with a therapist who shares their race or ethnicity?
Yes, having a therapist who shares a client’s race or ethnicity is often valuable, especially if it fosters a strong therapeutic alliance between the two. While training, qualifications, and experience are always important, a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic effectiveness. An alliance is likely to be strengthened with a therapist who has an understanding of a client’s background and perhaps also shared life experiences. It should be noted that many clients form a strong bond with their therapist regardless of their race or ethnicity. This is a personal decision, and it depends on the therapist, the client, and the connection between the two.

How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with Black British clients?
Clients can ask therapists directly about their experience working with clients of diverse backgrounds, including with Black British individuals. You may wish to inquire whether a therapist has undertaken training in cultural competence broadly, and how specifically they would ensure that their approach is sensitive to the needs of Black British clients. Therapy involves honesty and trust, so it’s best for clients to share concerns about their therapist’s cultural competence at the outset. And a good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals based on the concerns you articulate.

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?
It’s important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive because everyone comes to therapy with a unique background and set of experiences. Being aware of culture and cultural differences between people is important for understanding clients, as is coming to therapy with an open mind, recognising that the therapist doesn’t necessarily understand everything and that the client can help guide the way.

Who is included in Psychology Today's directory of Black therapists?
The directory of Black therapists includes therapists who have self-identified their ethnicity in their profiles. Psychology Today uses this information to assist clients in finding a therapist who can provide a cultural match. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their ethnicity in their profile, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. In situations where the number of therapists who have identified as Black is limited, the directory will also show therapists who have undergone specific multicultural training or have extensive experience working with clients from relevant cultural backgrounds.
