People come to therapy for different reasons. Some have specific moments/life events that they wish to discuss in a safe, open space where they can express their feelings fully with someone who is neutral and non-judgemental. Some are seeking support with issues that are impacting upon their daily lives (such as anxiety, depression, OCD etc). Others may not be sure exactly why they are coming, but they want to speak to someone in order to make sense of their thoughts, offload or clear their mind. Whatever your reason for seeking therapy, I provide a safe, confidential space to explore what you are bringing.

Hello and welcome. The thought of therapy can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when we already live in a world that may feel unsafe. I will work with you to build a trusting therapeutic relationship allowing you to feel seen and heard, maybe for the first time. I bring with me a wealth of experience in working with children, teens and adults using a variety of tools and techniques. I can help you to understand why you feel the way you do help you to build resilience and emotional well-being using a trauma informed, neurodivergent approach helping to prevent re-traumatization.

I trained in person-centred counselling, but over the years I have integrated other forms of therapy, CBT, existential therapy, compassion based therapy and creative therapy to facilitate the work when needed.
I am an experienced Counsellor with over 25 years experience. I aim to offer a safe space to to work on whatever you feel is important to focus on to make your life manageable or better. Life can be busy and I am a strong advocate in working in the way that fits into your life, whether that is online, telephone or in person. The work we do together is focused on you but based on the relationship we develop, that why I always offer a free no obligation initial session. Making space in your life to look at what you want to change rather than letting it flood every minute of your day can be a great first step.

I believe every relationship carries a unique story, shaped by culture, family, faith, trauma, personality, and the nervous system. When couples struggle, it’s rarely because they don’t care — it’s because something in their system has become overwhelmed, unheard, or unprotected. I create a space where both partners can slow down, feel safe, and truly hear each other — not just with their ears, but with their hearts and nervous systems. My work is gentle, direct, and respectful of each person’s story. Whether you’re navigating conflict, emotional distance, communication breakdowns, cultural differences, or the impact of trauma.

Hello my name is Nicola, thank you for taking the time to read my profile. In our busy lives it is often difficult to allocate time solely for ourselves, to gift to ourselves the opportunity to explore what may be hurting or limiting us. In essence what may be stopping us from living full and enjoyable lives. Choosing to enter therapy, to allow yourself the time to be listened to and heard without judgement is to choose a powerful and rewarding gift. Working together in a way that is comfortable for you, I offer a safe, compassionate and non judgmental space, that allows you to give yourself the permission to explore your feelings.

Life can feel overwhelming, especially when anxiety, overthinking or emotional exhaustion start to take over. You may be coping on the outside while feeling stuck or disconnected inside. Sometimes the hardest part isn’t what happened, but carrying it alone for too long. Many people come to therapy feeling tired of being strong, confused by their emotions, or disconnected from themselves. I offer a quiet, thoughtful space to slow down and gently explore what’s beneath the surface—without pressure, labels or judgement...

Searching through a directory of therapists can be a little strange. Trying to gauge if you can trust someone based on a small photo or a few words. I will try my best to give you a sense of how we might work together. Who I work with: I specialise in working with men's issues, addiction, and neurodivergence (ADHD/Autism), along with mental health pressures faced by elite athletes and high-performing professionals. Perhaps you are feeling stuck, exhausted, repeating old patterns, or you might not know what it is. This isn't an exhaustive list, so if you're concerned you don't quite fit in, feel free to reach out and ask.

I often work with high-functioning professionals, creatives, or students who look "fine" on the outside but are exhausted on the inside. Over-thinkers, people-pleasers and conflict avoiders (Anxiety) who criticize themselves constantly (Low Self-Esteem). Individuals who might be going through or fearing a breakup and those who are grieving from major life changes (Endings). Where previous therapy felt like just "venting" and led to no lasting change, OR have tried apps/CBT and felt it was too surface-level. Sounding familiar? Do you want to finally understand why you are this way, and learn how to cope with emotional pain?

How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
