I understand how daunting it can be seeking counselling and finding a counsellor who you can trust and be honest and open with. I aim to provide a professional, safe, confidential and non judgmental space in which you will be able to explore recent and long standing personal issues and to gain a greater understanding of your unhappiness and distress and find a way to manage this. My main priority is to make this a positive experience for you, and for the changes to be long standing.

How would you feel if I told you that you can stop feeling scared, unsafe and overwhelmed ? That you could connect with those around you in an authentic and meaningful way, rather than masking yourself because you fear losing them ? I can tell you this as I have supported many people like yourself, living with complex trauma to let go of the patterns that are keeping them low, anxious, dissociated, paranoid and lonely. I work with people just like you to firstly understand what has happened to them and how the strategies they are currently using have come to be. I then work to introduce new ways of being in the world.

I work with people who are looking to feel better and find more enjoyment in life. My clients may be experiencing specific difficulties such as stress, depression or anxiety, caused by demands of work, school or university or relationship challenges. Alternatively they may be struggling to make sense of life, looking to find a purpose or create change in one or more areas of their life. Some clients come for counselling as a form of personal or self-development, realising the importance of maintaining their emotional and mental wellbeing in the midst of all the various demands on their time and energy.

I offer a safe, non judgmental experience for CBT and CBT informed therapy, tailored to you, and not the other way around. I use humour, am authentic and invite you to be your authentic self too. I am an advocate for the Neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ communities, which often cross streams. Inclusion and belonging are at the heart of my work. I have a passion for helping people identify, understand and accept their neurodivergence (ADHD, AuDHD, ASD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia) in a balanced light, not the deficits based narrative we are used to. We learn, empower and grow. Note: not a diagnostic service.

Do you feel trapped in uncertainty, overwhelmed with sadness, emotions or physical pain? Is anxiety holding you back and getting in the way of living well? Do you find it hard to express your own needs. Maybe not wanting to feel a burden, so often keep your worries to yourself. Or overly focussed on others needs, at the detriment of your self-care. Do you find yourself behaving in ways that are unlike a person you want to be, maybe snappy at loved ones or colleagues and critical of yourself? Together, we can create a safe space, to explore helpful ways to move forward, build resilience and live better.

Heart-based Integrative Psychotherapy sessions tailored to you, held in person or online. When life challenges us, it can be hard to see a way forward- as we are in it. This too can be a pivotal and focal point of true change if we are able to claim it. With commitment to work through the healing process, we are able to harness our true nature, heal and know peace. It is a birthright. “Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise so I am changing myself.” Rumi.

Worried about your child or teenager but don't know where to turn? Look no further! I offer relaxed and friendly 40-minute therapeutic interventions suited to your child's needs. My clients are always free to talk through their problems with me, but they are equally welcome to work through things at a gentler pace by expressing themselves via creative activities or play. This is particularly useful for children who may struggle to put thoughts or feelings into words, or who worry about doing so. I have 30 years of varied work experience, always passionately striving to uncover the true potential of many children and young people.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
