In my practice in Shropshire I work with adults, young people (11+) and couples across a diverse range of issues that arise in counselling.
I understand how daunting it can be seeking counselling and finding a counsellor who you can trust and be honest and open with. I aim to provide a professional, safe, confidential and non judgmental space in which you will be able to explore recent and long standing personal issues and to gain a greater understanding of your unhappiness and distress and find a way to manage this. My main priority is to make this a positive experience for you, and for the changes to be long standing.

Research has shown that the most important aspect of therapy is the relationship that develops between Counsellor and Client, the quality of the therapeutic relationship is one of the clearest predictors of successful outcomes.
Perhaps you have reached a point where you know things have to change? Maybe you feel stuck in a cycle of repetitive and destructive relationship patterns? You might be feeling as though you don't belong or fit in anywhere. Maybe you are confused by your experience of life and find it difficult to understand why you behave and react the way you do. You may have a sense that there is something ‘wrong’ with you but can’t pinpoint what that is. You might feel stuck in a revolving door with support you are currently getting; maybe you consider NHS services don't understand or can't help you to move forward?

I work with couples , individuals and students from yr6 upwards. My training allows me to support clients to change, by raising their awareness of what they're doing and the effect of their choices on them and others. The main areas I look at are communication, how they listen and respond to others and why they respond in that way. Once the client is aware of where the response is coming from they can begin to adjust it, to fit the situation in front of them. I work with couples and children experiencing separation and loss either now or in the past, and help them to understand and regulate their feelings.

Whether you're seeking support for a particular issue, struggling with a painful event or simply wanting more from life, counselling and psychotherapy can help you gain a deeper awareness and understanding of yourself, your relationships with others and your place in the world. Whatever you're experiencing, the therapeutic relationship nurtures a confidential space where you're truly listened to, and met with a balance of warmth, empathy and respectful challenge. In giving attention to whatever is painful and difficult, it can enable the emergence of a stronger sense of self, and connection with meaning, purpose, potential and hope.

We all need to talk to someone at times, right now life is extremely difficult for many of us! Talking issues through is often the best way to deal with our conflicting emotions. I specialise in depression, anxiety, and weight management, along with mid-life transitions and relationship counseling. I believe talking to someone totally unconnected to the problem can help clients see their situation through fresh eyes. I use a combination of therapies to help clients restructure their lives and issues. I am based in a private location in South Cheshire. I also have clients based around the globe via Zoom. Discretion is paramount!

Hi, I'm Lesley. I offer a professional, non-judgemental, and confidential service to meet your individual needs. I offer a free, absolutely no obligation, 30minute, initial consultation because research has shown that one of the most important parts of counselling is the relationship between you and your counsellor, so in the initial consultation you can see if I am the right counsellor for you. I work with a very diverse range of issues, including neurodiversity, and if something is causing you to worry or feel low, whatever it might be, we can see if counselling can help you. We work at your speed, short, medium or long term

As well as listening and discussing important issues, I also suggest strategies for resolving problems and, if necessary, help you change, or when working with couples consider how your relationship fits for both of you.
I am a registered and highly qualified psychotherapist with 30 years in both the NHS and private sector. I offer a protected space to talk about your problems and feelings, confidentially and in confidence. My process is to listen carefully to your concerns trying to fully understand and experience what it’s like in your shoes. I then consider how to you deal with negative thoughts and feelings you have. Sometimes in my work, in the endeavor to understand, I try to get to the heart of things. Listening carefully to your problems trying to find out what's causing the difficulties and then helping you to find solutions.

Couples Counselling

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
