Welcome! I'm Keturah, a qualified children and young people's counsellor, and I'm passionate about creating a safe, nurturing space where every child can feel heard, valued, and supported. Working with children is more than a profession for me—it's a calling. I believe that every child has an innate capacity for healing and growth when given the right support and environment. Through gentle, child-led therapy, I help young people navigate their emotions, build resilience, and discover their own strength.

I believe people blossom when they feel seen, heard and understood. My therapeutic approach is integrative (which is therapist speak for a bit of this and a bit of that - depending on what is likely to be useful for what is being discussed) but the client (you) is always the best expert on themselves. I don’t assume there is a right way for a person to "Do Therapy" and adapt my approach to the needs and goals of each person I work with - but always working with curiosity, kindness and integrity. Whether you're anxious,  burnt out experiencing loss or just need someone to talk to, you are accepted, just as you are with me.

Sometimes life experiences can become overwhelming and feel too much to cope with. This can lead to us to feeling worthless, vulnerable and isolated. Sometimes we need somebody who will listen to us without judgement to help us work through things to lead to a better understanding of ourselves and our experiences and sometimes just hold our hand whilst we sit in that darkness.

In particular, I offer support around depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts.
Life can be a struggle sometimes or it may have always been this way for you. You may feel that you live life just going through the motions, but inside you’re screaming. Maybe you feel empty or constantly angry. Perhaps you’ve lost yourself and don’t know how to find ‘you’ again. It could be that everything is an effort and you lack motivation, or you’ve lost your purpose in life. You may be stuck with negative thoughts about yourself or others; feeling lonely, angry, shame, guilty, grief, anxiety or sadness.

I have worked with people who struggle with intense emotions which may have led them to experience self injurious and/or suicidal thoughts or behaviours.
I offer a supportive, non judgemental space and enjoy using DBT as an approach to help people develop skills to help them work on targets or behaviours. Additionally I use Schema Therapy to help people address any behaviour patterns they notice have become unhelpful in their lives.

Suicidal Ideation Counsellors
How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?
Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioural therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioural, dialectical behaviour, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioural and dialectical behaviour therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?
The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
