It can be difficult to know where to start when feeling depressed or anxious. I appreciate that many people become a little anxious at the prospect of an intense atmosphere in a counselling room. Thats not how I work though. My first aim is to help you relax. To see that yes, it is a 'safe and confidential environment for you to talk about anything that you want'. But there's no need for it to be a heavy and intense atmosphere either. I believe we can be practical, pragmatic and make some real changes without sacrificing empathy or compassion. I have over 20 years experience.

As an integrative counsellor, I believe there is not just one therapeutic approach which can help a client in all situations. Every person is unique and what works for one may not work for another. I see each client as an individual with their unique set of circumstances and experiences and I use elements of different approaches to help them explore their emotions, problems and issues. I offer an honest, transparent and non-judgemental approach by accepting and valuing my clients. I underpin my work with person-centred therapy which focuses on my client to help them reach their full potential.

Men are pretty bad when it comes to seeking help for health (physical or mental), preferring to sort the problems out themselves. I work within a specific 'man-friendly' approach to counselling, meaning we focus on how and where you want to be in the future and go from there, only looking back when the past blocks to you from moving on. I help you to find the best solution that fits your life circumstances, works for you and, enables you to develop the skills to cope with what life throws at you in the future. If you want a counsellor who believes in the power of conversation, humour and looking forward, let's chat.

Are you exhausted by the effort it takes to manage your feelings? Do you want to feel safe? Do you wonder who you are or why you feel bad? Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, low self esteem, panic disorders or relationship problems, there is good news. Research has shown that a good relationship with a counsellor/therapist can really help. My approach is to help you understand both 'your hidden self' (the unconscious) and find everyday tools and tasks that can help you change your life. I hope I can show you that all the wisdom and creativity you need to enjoy your life is within reach.

Would you like to feel less fearful, not be held back by your thoughts, to feel more at ease in yourself and with others, and experience more confidence? Maybe you'd like to better understand how past experiences may be impacting you in the present, and how to change familiar and unhelpful patterns to improve your relationships? With skilled and focused support all of this is possible! You are unique so I aim to work with your experiences in a way that is suited to you. I work with a range of issues and have a particular passion for working with anger, depressive feelings, and communication issues that impede relationships.

Hi, I'm Julie, and I am passionate about working with people who have experienced abuse or trauma, whether it be sexual, physical or emotional. When we experience trauma we lose part of who we truly are because of the after effects, such as anxiety, depression, panic attacks, flashbacks and dissociation (when we feel distanced from our emotions or ‘spaced out’, as if we’re living on autopilot). I love helping people rediscover who they really are by creating an environment in which they feel safe and completely accepted. I don't analyse you but with careful listening will know what we need to work on.

I have experience in many different client issues, to name some- self harm, relationship difficulties, body dysmorphia, gender dysphoria, neuro diversity, relationship difficulties, bereavement, miscarriage, infertility, addiction and trauma. I have a strong grounding in eating disorders, LGBTQ issues and sexual abuse. You may use the space how you wish to and I will be alongside you, supporting you along the way to find your own answers and come to your own solutions, conclusions and understandings. I wouldn't offer you advice but would facilitate what you would like to work on and what you wish to explore.

I believe we are all products of our upbringing and experiences. Sometimes, this can lead to a variety of struggles with issues such as anxiety, low self esteem, confusion and not feeling good in relationships. I can work with you to unravel what this is all about and help you find new ways of coping and moving forwards. We can talk or use creative methods to facilitate this discovery process. I work with children, young people, adults and couples for short or long term one to one sessions which are all driven by you and on your terms. I offer a free, initial meeting so you can decide if I am the right Counsellor for you.

Therapy offers insight and understanding helping you work towards an awareness of the self. It gives the opportunity to discover inbuilt defence mechanisms that perhaps no longer serve the person you have become as a result of the traumas we all experience in life. Counselling can be a quiet, safe space to breathe and think about your life. Who you are, where you are going and what you wish to gain. It can be a space to grieve the losses you have experienced in your life and the changes that happen throughout your life.

Internal Family Systems therapy is the fundamental psychotherapeutic approach that helps people deal with the legacy of trauma. We will work collaboratively, understanding what is being brought to the room and making sense of it together in an environment of safety and respect. In our work together you are encouraged to develop a self awareness and a capacity for a fuller sense of you. This will improve your relationship/connection to Self, deepening your understanding and compassion-perspectives can broaden- loosening the bolts on personal narratives or beliefs and creating room and opportunities for a different experience.

Welcome. I meet each individual as they are, I don’t find labels helpful. Each individual has a healthy, creative part, the part that is seeking healing. With gentle curiosity we learn to trust this part of you, it leads our process, and over time, as we work together, new possibilities are found. If you are struggling with feelings of meaninglessness, stuckness, being lost, angry, depressed, disconnected; or are having difficult memories, maybe traumatic; difficulties with physical pain recovery or prescription drug addiction, I am happy to meet with you and talk about how we can work together. Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
