Integrative Counselling in Sheffield

I am also training in CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) this allows for a more collaborative and directive approach to therapy and also allows me to work in an integrative way.
I know that even thinking about counselling is a big decision and can seem really overwhelming, but it can be an opportunity for you to be in a safe space that is purely for you to explore what you are finding difficult. Before you even come to a session, lets have a chat to see if it feels right before taking the next step. I work with what you bring into the room, however, people learn in different ways and I can work in a Person Centred way or with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, or even a mixture of both. As a trained listener, I aim to develop a therapeutic relationship to help you explore your issues at a pace to suit you.

My approach to counselling is Integrative.
Would you like to take your therapy or supervision outdoors?…. I offer therapy to adults and young people (14 +) I specialise in outdoor psychotherapy. I have found that taking therapy into outdoor natural environments enriches the counselling experience. It spurs deeper, creative ways of thinking and our movement through the landscape allows people to feel unstuck while confronting their problems. Taking therapy outdoors is an option for everyone regardless of fitness and ability.
In line with my clinical specialism in echo-psychotherapy I also offer supervision outdoors and welcome therapists and pastoral practitioners.

I use an integrative and personalised approach, drawing upon different theories such as attachment theory, compassion focussed therapy, CBT and systemic theory.
I seek to offer you a safe, confidential space where you can share your story. Whilst I have worked with a number of difficulties, these tend to have a common, but individually unique grounding - how we as humans have learnt to survive and cope in difficult circumstances, and together in therapy we can start to make sense of how your experiences and relationships have shaped you in order to develop a road map for repairing relationships, overcoming difficulties, being kinder to yourself and developing new ways of coping in order to live a better and more fulfilling life.

I am an empathetic, approachable and genuine integrative counsellor, with a firm belief in empowering clients, supporting them to achieve growth and healing via a trusting therapeutic relationship that takes into account social context.
People seek therapy for different reasons. You may be feeling low, depressed, anxious or stressed; or perhaps you just have the feeling that things are not quite right. It might be that the distress is such that you cannot function at all. These could be recent feelings or you may have been experiencing them for years. In any case, counselling or psychotherapy can help you make sense of things, explore different options or make changes. Some of these issues can be sorted after a few sessions; in other instances, a more long-term approach will be needed.

As individuals, we are all unique and I believe passionately in working alongside the person rather than a one size fits all approach; being integrative means I can offer a range of approaches or techniques to suit your needs.
There are so many reasons why people might seek therapy: you may feel low or depressed, anxious, or stressed, or perhaps need help in making sense of your life. Human issues and experiences can touch and affect us in unique ways: loss, grief, abuse, relationships (past or present), life changes, parenting, loneliness or trauma, and therapy can provide a space to help you explore and make sense of these issues.
If you feel trapped by self doubt, toxic relationships, or unresolved trauma, healing is possible and you do not have to do it alone.

I have worked as an Integrative Therapist since 2003 and as a Cognitive Behavioural & ACT Therapist since 2007 both in the NHS and in private practice.
Anxiety, depression and significant life events can take us away from living the way we truly want to live. Working with individuals, I draw on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a mindfulness-based behavioural approach. ACT supports people in responding more effectively to difficult thoughts and feelings, while helping them to reconnect with what matters most.
In my work with couples, I integrate a few approaches within a framework that helps couples to shift from entrenched dynamics and unhelpful patterns. The aim is to create emotional safety and move toward deeper connection, trust, and mutual understanding.

Integrative Counsellors
What is integrative therapy?
Integrative therapy is a type of therapy that combines ideas and techniques from different therapeutic approaches depending on the needs of the individual client. By merging elements of different treatments, an integrative therapist aims to offer a more flexible approach than those who practice just one type of therapy.
How does integrative therapy work?
Integrative therapy approaches a client’s mental, physical, and emotional health in a holistic way to discover the sources of their unhealthy behaviour patterns or other challenges and considers the approach most likely to lead to improvement. Among the techniques an integrative therapist may practice are cognitive-behavioural therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, EMDR, mindfulness, art or music therapy, psychodynamic therapy, breathwork, family systems therapy, gestalt therapy, and trauma-informed therapy. An integrative therapist regularly evaluates the client’s progress and is prepared to pivot to a different approach if progress stalls.
How long does integrative therapy last?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for integrative therapy; people who find they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that spurred them to seek treatment. New patients should understand that it may take some time for a therapist to land on a treatment approach that best meets their needs, but once they do, they should expect sessions to extend for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.
How effective is integrative therapy?
There are hundreds of types of talk therapy, and research shows that while they vary in form, goals, and frequency, many if not all can produce similarly successful outcomes. But a single approach does not always deliver the greatest, or speediest, benefit, and so even therapists primarily trained in one model will use tools, language, techniques, or exercises from others to shape an effective treatment plan.
